Pasta Expert, Veggie Dunce
Last night just before bed, my dad directed me to AOL’s food page; he challenged me to take their Spring Veggie ID Quiz. I scoffed at the challenge, certain that I would be a veggie expert, given the considerable amount of time I devote to chopping, cooking, and eating them… Ten minutes later, I felt like a veggie dunce. There are far more vegetables out there than I realized! All the more reason to expand my produce repertoire this summer.
After discovering such a disappointing gap in my food knowledge, I was eager to try some of the other food quizzes available. Ironically enough, I am far better at identifying candy bars, although I performed the best on the pasta shapes quiz. On which quizzes do you think you would perform the best? The worst?
Aside from learning about food, I also like eating it. Observe:

Due to my recent obsession with all things hemp, I have been neglecting poor Spirutein. This flavor is one of my favorites:) To read more about Spirutein, check out my comprehensive Guide to Protein Powders.

Despite its inclusion of gelatin (which can be made from either vegetarian sources, such as agar-agar, or non-vegetarian sources, such as fish bones or beef skins), I gave the whey yogurt a taste this morning. I like the texture–very thick like Greek yogurt, but I am not so keen on the taste. Once mixed with the other parfait ingredients, however, it was fine. The freeze-dried bananas you see are from Crispy Green, which I first featured here. I had intended to sprinkle the cashews on top, but I over-filled my parfait glass…again. So I mixed them in as I worked my way through the yumminess.

For lunch, I derived inspiration from the Candle Cafe Cookbook‘s Asparagus, Almond, and Tomato Salad; I added the smoked tofu for protein. What’s notable about this tofu is its low sodium content (a mere 5% RDA per serving)–many prepared tofu products available today are loaded with salt.

Dinner was an old favorite, Peanut Butter Noodles from Vegan A Go Go. I never get tired of this meal! I change up the vegetables each time though, and I especially enjoyed tonight’s addition of cole slaw mix (aka shredded cabbage and carrots).

food blogger patois seems appropriate: NOM NOM.
Before I go, I’d like to take a quick survey of any changes you’d like to see at The Broccoli Hut. What kind of feature posts (which appear on Sundays) would you like to see in the future? Any other suggestions for the blog? I appreciate any input you might have!

I did way better on the produce quiz than the candy bar quiz. Although, in my defense, most of the candy bars we don’t have in Canada, so it wasn’t really fair. HA!
Your peanut noodles look excellent
