Reconciliation

As you may recall, a few months ago, I had a small battle with the bus driver, wherein I became the prey of a campus bus driver, for reasons unknown to me. In addition to bombarding me with malignant glances, she routinely “forgot” to stop the bus when I rang the bell and even once stopped the vehicle so that she could pick her teeth in my face. While I was tempted to report her for such blatant rudeness, ultimately, I let it slide—confrontation is so not my thing. Rather than resort to her hurtful tactics, I continued to treat her with respect, just like Mama taught me.

However, just has arbitrarily as our battle began, so have we reached a point of reconciliation. A few days ago, I boarded the bus and was greeted with:

“Hey, baby! How you doin’?”

“Uh, good, thanks. How are you?”

“Just fine, baby!”

Soon enough, she was chatting me up like I was her long-lost sister. Before I knew it, I was asking her about her cat. Geez, if I had known that reconciliation would be this easy, I would have made small talk a long time ago.

When was the last time you experienced a reconciliation? Was it as easy as mine, or did it require more than mere chit-chat?

Aside from making friends with the enemy, I managed to make myself some good eats…

As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve been enjoying copious amounts of granola lately, and one of the varieties (my own Broccoli Hut Crunch) features shredded coconut. I found myself picking those little shreds of deliciousness out of the mix, so I decided to buy a bag of plain ol’ shredded coconut to experiment with in the kitchen. Experiment #1: Banana-Cocoa oats with coconut & almonds. Heavenly.

For lunch, I relied on a Broccoli Hut classic, the Greek salad. Always hits the spot.

This afternoon I had to film a video book report for class—ugh. While I thoroughly enjoy chatting to you all about food via video posts, that enjoyment is noticeably absent from other video presentations; were I wearing my HRM, I assure you that my heart rate was at least 150 during the entire recording. Anyway, all that nervousness worked up an appetite, so I made a big batch of Pumpkin Bulghur Chili with black beans and guacamole.

Another marathon day of classes tomorrow. Ciao for now, dearies.

  1. She’s been SOOOOO peppy lately…I almost didn’t recognize her at first (until I saw her nails). SO WEIRD!!! I wonder if she found a man or got a talking to or got reported or something.

She called me over while I was exiting…and she had me within 5 inches of her face and I thought she was gonna rip me into shreds…and then she complimented my eyebrows hahahahaha

  2. I don’t really like it when women call me “baby”. I also don’t like “honey”. Anway… glad your reconciliation was easy :) Pumpkin bulgur chili sounds amazing!!

  3. crazy story, glad you guys are cool now!

  4. I’m glad you and the bus lady reconciled! Bus drivers can get really cranky (especially on college campuses…although I can’t say I blame them).

I also get nervous about giving presentations! Hah I should wear a heart rate monitor one day just to see…

  9. that’s a fun story with your bus driver! hahaaha!!! :D

  10. I do the same thing. I awfulize a situation. Then, when it actually happens, it’s not so bad. Boo for her being mean to her, but yay for small talk bringing you back together. :)

  11. Oh my gosh! I went back and read about your bus driver battles – I too cannot believe the turnaround! Hopefully she’s in a better place in life now so she doesn’t have to take her angst out on you.

Coconut, almonds, banana, and chocolate are the best combo! That looks like a wonderful batch of oats. I hope I can keep your pumpkin bulgur chili idea in mind next time I have black beans on hand…usually I don’t know what to do with them so they go bad from non-use after I open the can the first time! I shoulda known Caroline had the answer…

  12. glad you guys are friends now!

  13. Glad you guys are bus buddies now! I hate it when I am at odds with people for no real reason…

Presentations make me so nervous too. I am far from shy, but as soon as I feel like I am being watched/observed/scrutined, I freak out. Lol.

  14. I love bulgur! And black beans. And chili.

  15. I enjoy how wonderful that oatmeal looks! ;)
