Revenge of the DOMS
So I’m starting to think that I need to re-think my plan to become a tubing champion. I woke this morning to aching shoulders, a sore neck, and tender abs—heck, even my bum was screaming out in pain. I don’t remember being hit by a truck yesterday, so I’m pretty sure this delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) can be attributed to my tubing shenanigans from Sunday. Apparently, I have a bad habit of clenching every muscle in my body when aboard the biscuit.
I can only blame this temporary disablement on myself, however—the exact same thing happened last year. What can I say? I simply can’t refuse a good nautical knock-around.
When was the last time you suffered from the revenge of the DOMS? How did you ease the pain?
Enough of the complaining, Caroline. Let’s get onto the grub.
Due to my fondness for anything miniature, I practically squealed with glee when I found Mini Larabars at Whole Foods a few weeks ago. I put one of the apple pie variety to use this morning by using it as a topping for my oat bran. Perfection.
Last night in a streak of boredom, I flipped through my old Chicago Diner Cookbook and stumbled upon a simple recipe for Cream of Broccoli Soup (sans cream). I made a tweak or two to the recipe (i.e., substituting almond milk for soy and adding chickpeas) to make a tasty lunch this afternoon.
For dinner, I showed some Dreena-love and busted out my rather worn copy of Eat, Drink, and Be Vegan to prepare Orange Sesame Tofu.
‘Til tomorrow, my friends.

I tend to get DOMS after really intense strength workouts. Sometimes I get it when I do a new pilates video! Dinner looks deee-licious.
Last time I went tubing, I woke up feeling the same way! I was definitely not expecting it. Sheesh!
I strength train twice a week, so I feel ya on the soreness! The day after my Body Sculpt class, I’m aching everywhere. Have you ever tried foam rolling? It’s like self-administering a deep tissue massage!
i can’t even remember the last time i feel soreness… sign of lack of workout
that soup looks good!
I love your site. But you must eat snacks no?
Maybe its just me, ha….i eat like 6 x a day…and nighttime I tend to go far too overboard.
i get this in my neck all the time! seriously it sucks doesnt it!!
i need to crumble my new bars i got on my oatmeal! uve inspired me
xoxo <3
i love a good hearty bowl of broccoli soup. except i sadly like mine with cream!
i’ve never been tubing…but i imagine i’d be an achey, breaky mess afterwards.
When I have a serious case of DOMS I stretch a ton, do yoga and use my yoga tune-up therapy balls.
Currently fighting a case of the DOMS now…after being pulled underneath a parachute by 50 screaming children at nutrition camp and being pulled out by another 50 children, my arm feels like it was pulled out of its socket! Hope you feel better soon!
I went tubing on Monday, at I can still feel it in my biceps and traps! I love tubing so much. Especially when the driver tries to kill you by swinging the boat around suddenly at an exceedingly high speed and slingshotting you ridiculously far out from behind the boat. So much fun. Have you tried doing it upside down yet? I did that for the first time on Monday, too, and boy is it scary and amazing!!
One time I was so sore from an ab workout that it hurt to laugh for two days!! Tubing can be brutal, haha
I’m always sore after body pump it seems or if I haven’t done strength training like that in awhile. A good sesh with the foam roller, high quality protein and fluids always helps. Or of course good ol’ Aleve. Your soup looks delicious!
I’ve not had DOMs in AGES…which suggests i probably need to get more active…
xx
I’ve never been tubing…despite the aches, it sounds fun! I wish I had DOMS…because that would mean I had a good work out. Haven’t had a case of that in years!
I love that ‘fu recipe! In fact, all of the ED&BV recipes are amazing
Yes, I’ve been a victim of DOMS & it’s notttt that fun. Honestly, moving is what helps the soreness go away!
I haven’t been tubing since I was about ten years old. This is a depressing fact. I need to find a way. And it would be a nice antidote to the CRUSHING HEAT IN NYC.
