Shopping Day

This afternoon, I had a shopping trip planned—but this was no ordinary shopping trip in that I was joined by fellow blogger Matt and it was to take place at Whole Foods.

Having another foodie to grocery shop with is a very rare pleasure—when else can you talk about the subtleties of kombucha for a half-hour? By the time I checked out, I had accumulated a pretty substantial haul. Check out the highlights:

Ingredients for Butternut Squash Stew (recipe courtesy of Seth’s mom):

A few jars of Naturally More for Naomi:

Tofurky feast (provided by a generous coupon!):

An assortment of winter vegetables:

Plus a few impulse purchases:

What’s your most recent impulse grocery purchase?

Aside from gallivanting through the aisles of Whole Foods, I ate a few tasty meals too.

After a run in the toasty 55 degree weather this morning, I came back for a protein-packed breakfast.

Lunch was a colorful affair, featuring a modified Ginger Peanut Dressing. By “modified,” I mean that I used cashew butter instead of peanut butter.

For dinner, I prepared a peanut sauce to which I added tofu and mushrooms. Add a bed of lightly steamed broccoli slaw, and you’ve got dinner.

Alright, the Charlie Brown Christmas Special beckons for my attention. Good night!

  1. I feel like when bloggers go grocery shopping it’s a recipe for wallet disaster

  2. You did not mention that half my Kombucha ended up on the table. LOL.

  3. I made that salad recently. Amazing dressing! Thanks for the recipe. :)

  4. Your Whole Foods purchases look much like mine…. hmmm…. my impulse purchase this week was a hefty jar of coconut butter, nuttzo and a few other gems :-)

We are MUCH too similar– I had Dreena’s cashew- ginger tofu for dinner….

  5. yum for the cashew dressing!!!!

While it’s not something I would have on hand for everyday use, I’d recommend the Tofurky roast for those in search of something more festive on special occasions. It tastes delicious, particularly the wild rice stuffing inside!

  7. all of these eats look so good! isn’t the egg + laughing cow combo the best?

  8. blogger shopping trips are the best.

  9. Naturally, all your meals look delicious… but I have to say: I particularly love the colours in your lunch dish! The shot from above is beautiful. :) Sounds like the perfect topping for a salad, too – tasty and packed with healthy fats~! I definitely have to try it…

Chipotle pumpkin salsa sounds divine… And I didn’t know WF had its own brand of soy protein powder! Never seen it in the WF here – wonder if it’s a US-only product?

    Happy TGI-Friday! :D

  10. How fun to go out grocery shopping with a fellow blogger. A great haul you came home with, too! Love the peanut tofu, that would be such a great meal.

  11. This is a bit sad and I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, but now that I’m home temporarily I usually have my mom pick up stuff for me once a week during her grocery rounds. I also poach her fresh veggies, etc… It’s better this way b/c I really don’t have the opportunity to go nuts. I hate wasting food, so the more focused I can be with my meal planning the better. The farmer’s market is the last place I have left to go nuts =)

  12. I’m watching the Charlie Brown special right now!! I love the holiday movies that have invaded tv programming this week.
I can never walk out of WF without buying twice as much as I had planned.
I was wondering what kind of wraps you use? I always use wraps for my to go breakfasts if I have to take it in to work. It’s always so hard to fit it all in even though I usually get the big burrito size tortillas! I’ve also gotten those big rectangular flatbreads from some small middle eastern stores around here, but am always looking for ways to switch it up. If you get tired of the savory, I had an amazing wrap the other morning, I pan fried some banana, spread the tortilla with cashew butter, topped it with the caramelized bananas and some maple syrup ( I think I was dreaming about a vacation to Puerto Rico and had fried plantains on the brain lol)
Hope you’re making the most of your birthday/ Christmas week!

The brands of wraps that I like are FlatOut (their Healthy Grain line is good, particularly the Honey Wheat flavor), and I also buy La Tortilla Factory whole wheat tortillas in bulk at Costco. Rudi’s makes good wraps too, but they are a little too expensive for me.
