“Showered” with Love and Affection

Points to anyone who can name the song which features my post’s title:)

Aside from its corniness, my post’s title actually provides quite a fitting description for my weekend. As I mentioned in Friday’s entry, my parents were in town for a few days, and I thoroughly enjoyed luxuriating in the comfort of their company. I can say with confidence that Mom and Dad are the people with whom I feel the most understood and appreciated.

Not only was I showered with affection from the parentals, but I also was showered upon by plain old rain. Just as my mom and I pulled in the parking lot of the mall on Saturday afternoon, the unload decided to unload by bucket-loads. With no umbrella or jacket, I ended up looking like this:

At least the Christmas decor in the background distracted me from my drenched state. The downpour also provided a perfect excuse to go buy a new (dry) shirt to wear around the mall:)

I have lots of pictures to show you from the weekend, so let’s get crackin’:

Saturday

Unfortunately, the hotel my parents were staying at does not provide free breakfast. HOW LAME! As a result, we just picked up a few items from the grocery store to make a morning meal.

Then we headed over to Trader Joe’s where my parents treated me to a few goodies (think chocolate-covered sunflower seeds and pomegranates!). Afterward, we headed across the parking lot to Evos for lunch. You may recall that I dined here last spring with Alanna. This time I ordered the American Champion soy burger. Check out that pickle action! I also snagged a few of my dad’s (not fried) AirFries to dip in some of their wacky ketchup flavors.

For dinner, my dad found this awesome vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Chapel Hill called—get this—Butternut Squash. So perfect, right? It took me about a half hour to decide what to order—I’m not accustomed to having so many options when I dine out!

Once dinner had digested and we chatted for a bit, it was time to say a tearful goodbye to my parents. I whipped up a shake to make myself feel better.

Sunday

Cinnamon Spice Oat Bran on the menu this morning.

For lunch, I feasted on my Mom’s leftover salad to which I added some additional white beans and roasted red pepper vinaigrette. Love all the colors in there!

Just before heading out to chapter this evening, I quickly put together a cumin-spiced sweet potato & lentil dish. I added sunflower seeds for that always necessary crunch factor.

A great weekend, to say the least. Now just 4 weeks of work until Thanksgiving!

Good night, all.

  1. What a nice visit with your parents, minus the raindrops… I got soaked a few times, too.

I wish we had an Evos here… I’d go crazy for that flavored ketchup!

  2. I can’t believe my rents are gone :( Back to reality :( I totally agree 100% with your mom and dad appreciate/understood comment. Having had them here almost makes me hate it here alone even more!! Make any sense??

I’ve wanted to try Evo SOOOOOOOO badly…but never have. I walked in one time and picked up a menu and drooled reading through it at TJs though. Butternut Squash looks amazing. We shall go one of these days!

  3. you are adorable, even when drenched!! that is awesome you got to hang with the parents :)

  4. Any place that has multiple ketchup offerings is a-ok in my book. The only thing that might be better is multiple flavors of hummus in pumps. Maybe we could call it pumpus. Oh Lordy, it’s time for bed.

  5. I love your pictures..they are beautiful! and are those emerald cocoa almonds? if so, those are some of my favorites!

    xoxo,
    Shelley

I am too close with my family and always cried when they left after a visit or when I left home. Your dinner out looks spectacular what a name! I would walk in there not knowing anything about it JUST for the name :) annnd I really want to get some cocoa flavored almonds now.

Love the soaked picture – that has happened to me too many times to count. But the Christmas decor would have totally lightened the mood for me, too!

I really want to go to Evos! And Butternut Squash! Both equally interesting even though their options are very different – love it. I agree with Mama Pea – hummus in the pumps (or pumpus, if you will) would be a glorious addition.

    Can’t wait for Thanksgiving!
