Snacktime at the Hut
Throughout my two-plus years has a food blogger, there is one question that I have been asked with far more frequency than any other. Ironically, it has nothing to do with the meals I feature on the blog—you all are apparently far more interested in the eats that I don’t photograph, that is, my snacks.
As I’ve explained before, I don’t often take pictures of my snacks for several reasons. Among them are inconvenience, the snacks’ un-photogenic nature, and the potential for obsessive documentation of my diet.
However, because you are all so interested in my between-meal nibbles, I thought I would share a few simple examples of how I fuel myself, aside from the meals I post daily. You’ll notice that these snacks are all very similar in terms of ingredients (yet another reason I don’t often photograph or post them); they generally follow the food group “formula” that I shared several months ago. These days, in light of my clean eating challenge, I’ve been emphasizing high-protein foods (Greek yogurt, protein powder, etc.) in my snacks.
With all that said, here’s a peek into how snacktime goes down at the Broccoli Hut:
One of the chief ingredients in the Nutridel cookies is sunflower seeds, making the addition of Sunbutter to the mix pretty perfect.
Cottage cheese makes pretty much anything taste better, but one of my favorite combinations is wheat germ, cottage cheese, and apple. Quite a flawless trio.
Post Cereals recently sent me a box full of education materials about whole grains. My favorite item among the goodies? The edible part, of course—Grape Nuts!
And every now and then, I do get a hankerin’ for some salty fare:

Have you every tried the naturally more flaxseed nut butter its really good! And wheat germ is amazing… another good source of protein/fat/calcium is part skim ricotta cheese, it really is so good and less sodium more protein when compared to cottage cheese

Snacks I eat a lot are Greek yogurt with stuff mixed in (cereal, dried fruit, etc) and homamde things like protein muffins/bars
