So-long, Weekend
Yes, I am bidding farewell to the weekend before it’s even begun. Thanks to my academic endeavors (i.e., graduate school), instead of rest and relaxation, this weekend will be occupied by studying for/taking exams. I understand that earning a degree requires a certain amount of sacrifice—but honestly, who schedules an exam for a Saturday?! That’s just cruel.
I have an exam tomorrow and Tuesday, plus a potentially enjoyable “culminating event” for my gastronomy class on Sunday (details to come). In order to make this weekend less painful, I have a few study breaks planned, including making chili & cornbread for Seth and myself tomorrow night, and perhaps a Freaks & Geeks viewing session.
When you have a lot of work or an important task to do, how do you “break it up” to make it more enjoyable?
In the interest of having sufficient study-time, let’s get onto the eats.
I had plans of making protein pancakes this morning, but one look at the stack of schoolbooks in the corner convinced me that something quicker was in order. Parfait it was.
After doing my usual Friday chores, I re-fueled with a simple roasted cauliflower salad.
For dinner, I put together some Spicy PB Coconut Tofu with Mango Slaw. This batch was so spicy, it made my nose run!
With that, I wish you good night!

I don’t break it up – I work best under pressure
Enjoy your weekend, CYode!
Exam on a Saturday? Is that legal?
I search food blogs for recipes and fantasize about what I’m going to make next.
JK. (sorta)
Good luck on those finals!
I think you should be awarded for the most creative and glamourous salad combinations. You do quite well at it, missy! Hands down. No questions asked.
Sorry about your exams and weekend school events. If it makes you feel any better, I’ll be working and working on homework ALL weekend
your food is so pretty! i wish i could organize it like you do!
Good luck with exams! I’m sure you’ll do great, and just remember that you’ll be done soon, and then every day will feel like a weekend
P.S. You mentioned blueberry flax the other day- what is the magical goodness and where do I find it!!??
it is a totally working weekend for me, too! i’m on call, we have a jillion inpatients PLUS my grant is due monday! i’m actually glad it’s all happening at once b/c the next few weekends will be much more enjoyable
I like to plan ahead and finish everything one day before the last day so I have one day to relax
I feel more confident this way than procrastinating until the last minute.
good luck!
I usually look at my schedule, figure out how many hours I can put in each day and leave it at that. I tend to freak out a little, feeling like I should do more. But sometimes overstudying is worse for me than just doing what I can (but not understudying either
).
I can’t believe they’d schedule an exam on a Saturday. Ugh…you’ll do great though, and just think how relieved you’ll feel once it’s all over!
Good luck studying! I’m spending the weekend cramming too
A Saturday exam? That’s crazy! Good luck.
Oh the joys of being a graduate student. I am done with all my classes, hence the days of studying are right now over.
Good luck studying, you will be done in no time. Great blog btw!
