Sorely Mistaken
So I woke up this morning, pleasantly surprised by the freshness of my legs; after my race yesterday, I had expected to be one sore sister today. With a spring in my step, I set about running my customary six miles this morning and continued on with my day. Then, around 3 PM, just as I was heading to class, reality hit. My walk to class was pretty painful—my quadriceps were berating me for deciding to wear my boots today. Ouch. Sorely mistaken, indeed.
Have you ever had a similar experience with delayed muscle soreness? I’m thinking tomorrow morning will include ellipticizing rather than running…
Picking up where I left off earlier today…
I whipped up a batch of Banana Blender Cereal today, this time with several changes. Rather than use my beloved GoLean, I used bran flakes (or more precisely raisin bran post- raisin snatching); I used almond milk rather than soymilk; and I added a scoop of chia seeds for thickening. While this concoction was tasty enough, it didn’t come close to my typical combination in terms of texture—I am all about the pudding-ness.
Before heading to class, I made a batch of my mock tuna recipe—I didn’t have any chickpeas around, so I substituted mashed tofu. FYI, apple + PB and zuke + salsa are the best side dishes EVER.
I faced the cold rain for my weekly dining committee meeting. Upon my return, I just wanted food, fast. Plop some cottage cheese on some greens, and call it dinner.
Now I am off to kick up my heels and give my legs a rest. Ta-ta for now.

Mmmm the mock tuna sandwich looks freaking amazing!!!
That mock tuna sammie looks so delicious! Wow! I love a great sandwich.
I have delayed muscle soreness all the time – it’s not the day after, but 2 days after a tough workout that I’m hurting the most. I know there’s a good reason for that (I took an exercise physiology course), but I can’t remember of course!
Congrats on the race, by the way
I fully agree about your lunch side dishes! That blended cereal sounds fantastic – I’ll have to try that since I have a box of GoLean sitting here. Sorry about the soreness!!
I’m impressed that you ran 6 miles after your race! Sorry to hear the soreness snuck up on you…
Mock tuna sounds like it may be added to my lunch list!
That dinner looks amazing! I love the clementine outline
I always seem to get delayed soreness! A long run leaves me feeling fine and fresh, but it hits me much later on. Usually after I’ve been sitting down for a while, which gives my muscles the chance to cramp up.
I hope your legs are feeling better now that you’r resting them!
(p.s. your faux tuna sandwich looks and sounds absolutely divine!!)
