Spring Break, Day 1: In Transit and Magic Kingdom
Greetings from Disney World! Spring break has officially begun with a bang—we have been in Orlando a mere 10 hours, but we’ve managed to tour many of the Magic Kingdom’s hot spots already. See below for full documentation of our travels so far, plus a few pictures of my eats along the way…
I rose at 5:00 AM this morning for our early morning flight. As per usual, I packed myself a balanced breakfast to bring along rather than rely on RDU’s mediocre offerings. I have officially re-kindled my passion for TJ’s Mango Berry Muffins.
Once we landed and found our hotel, we were informed that we could not check in for another hour. We seized the opportunity to go find some grub and settled on a TGI Friday’s down the road. While it was convenient, TGIF totally fails for availability of vegetarian fare. I ordered a Santa Fe Chopped Salad, sans chicken and cheese. There were all of 3 black beans on the entire salad, and the rest of the plate was occupied by iceberg lettuce. At least there was some tasty avocado action on top.
Afterward, we headed to the grocery store to pick up a few Broccoli Hut essentials for the week: oatmeal, peanut butter, fruit, etc. Upon returning to the hotel, I was a bit peckish due to my light lunch—Primal Strips to the rescue! I always pack these for emergency protein while traveling.
Then it was off to the Magic Kingdom!
We ended our evening with a meal at Tony’s, an Italian restaurant modeled after the legendary bistro of Lady and the Tramp. Again, vegetarian options were limited, so I ordered the vegetable lasagna. Fortunately, the cheese was all baked on top, so I bequeathed that part to Seth, and I slurped down the rest of the tasty goodness, featuring eggplant, peppers, and zucchini. Yummy.
I am now off to get some rest. Tomorrow we are headed to the Animal Kingdom. G’night!

You guys look like your having such a good time! Have fun tomorrow
Sounds like a great trip so far!
Heya Caroline! It looks like you’re having lots of fun, even if the food situation is less than expected. It’s a good thing there was a store to stock up on some of your favorites
. I know you’re vegetarian, but do you not like cheese? I know most people have the hardest time going vegan because of cheese so have you ever considered this? I would be interested to hear your thoughts. Oh, and Ruby Red Vegan went to Disney a while back so I bet if you go into her old posts, she lists some of the restaurants she went to. Some meals she had looked really, really good (and they were vegan wahoo!)
Have a lovely trip!
