Stood Up
Today, I was supposed to have a group meeting at 4:00. I structured my day such that I could be there on time, with my notes at the ready in preparation for a productive but efficient work session. I made the trek to campus and arrived at the designated meeting location and waited…and waited. 4:10 arrived, and I got a little anxious that no one was coming; by 4:15 my panties were in a full-on wad. Apparently, of six people, I was the only team member who had remembered today’s meeting. Normally, I would have grumbled all day about how no one values my time, yada yada yada–but today, in a streak of atypical flexibility, I opted for a different approach. I seized the opportunity to take a short stroll around campus in the gorgeous weather and stocked up on Clif bars at an on-campus store. Granted, I came home and whined a bit about being “stood up” to my roommate, but I decided not to let my usual rigidity ruin my mood.
Have you ever been stood up, either on a date or otherwise?
I have mucho pictures to share, so let’s get crackin’.
Friday
I returned home later than usual on Friday night, so I cobbled together a quick Asian-themed salad for dinner.
Saturday
Pumpkin+Greek yogurt=match made in heaven. Perfect for a parfait, too.
The only thing that could have made this sandwich better? Guacamole.
Seth and I had designated Saturday evening as “date night,” for which we ventured to Sage, a vegetarian restaurant in Chapel Hill. The menu has a decidedly Middle Eastern flair, owing to the cook/owner’s Iranian origins. We ordered a mezze platter (featuring some pomegranate-studded hummus) as an appetizer, and I ordered the Bud-m-Joon (aka “Eggplant Paradise”) for my entree. Everything was friggin-fraggin fantastic. I pretty much cleaned my plate (as per usual). Due to the “intimate” setting of the restaurant, I didn’t feel comfortable whipping out my camera for pictures. However, below are some look-alike dishes:
Sunday
Despite my feast last night, I woke up hangry this morning. Cream of Wheat to the rescue.
I kept it simple with an old ED&BV favorite for lunch: Goddess Garbanzos.
For dinner I whipped up my version of a burger and shake:
Alright, I am now off to chill before another week begins. Ciao!

Hello and welcome! I have created this blog for people who love food, especially healthful, vegetarian food.
I have just graduated from Duke University with degrees in English and psychology. I plan to pursue a master's degree in nutrition starting in Fall 2010. Ideally, I would like to combine my love of food and the written word someday as a health writer.

EHH .. group projects.. one thing I do not miss about college.. sorry you wasted your time!!
My husband and I go to Sage at least once a month (usually for lunch since its cheaper!) lol. What a fabulous place!! Glad you had a good meal
Hey Caroline,
This is Beth, and I think you are an amazing writer / cook. You make me feel bold in life with your words. You rise like a bun in my life. You take away the pain when I am a bore. My life is now quite bowl full.
Bincerely,
Beth
Ps. to make bome bense of my words replace all B’s with S’s.
Hi! I kind of just found your blog. I’m a duke alum (very recent – just graduated in 2009.) I used to love sage. Perfect setting for a date night.
Sorry you wasted your time with the group meeting. In my experience, as graduation neared, attendance at vital group meetings sunk lower and lower. Annoying, yes, but not entirely unpredictable, I suppose.
I’m not a big ‘commenter’ on blogs (as much as I enjoy reading them, including yours!) but “by 4:15 my panties were in a full-on wad” is SO worth commenting on. Funniest thing I’ve heard all weekend!
it happened to me yesterday too, my facial appointment was set to another month! two hours of drive wasted… but I didn’t get upset. not sure why
That Sage food looks amazing!
Sorry about the stand up
I still can’t believe that that many people forgot to show up!
Being stood up is an awful feeling, don’t you feel like everyone around you knows that you are being stood up as well??
Oh well, at least you weren’t the one doing the act
Bummer to being stood up! One time a friend of mine was SUPER late to lunch and I left becauase I thought she wasn’t coming. I couldn’t get ahold of her on the phone or anything so needless to say I was a little PO’d. How were those veggie burgers?
I’ve never been stood up but I get cranky enough when people are late! Clif bars woulda made me feel better, too!
Too bad your group stood you up – at least you were able to make the most of it! My panties would also have been in a wad.
Love your version of a burger and shake – a burger and a milkshake is a great combo!
I’m also not great at flexibility, but I always feel proud when I can muster some of it!
That would have thrown me for a loop with no chance of recovery!! I had a meeting with 6 people too and only 3 people showed up. Ughh. I’ve missed your nighttime smoothies and I bet your tummy has too
ohhh i hate being stood up, good for you on trying to take the high road!
i hate group meetings when i feel like the only one who cares! oh, the trials and tribulations of us type As
i LOVE sage! josh and i go there pretty regularly. we love the eggplant paradise and the fezen joon — often we’ll split half/half. and the mezzes are wonderful, too!
if you are ever in the mood for a decadent treat there, share the tiramisu. it is AMAZING. my favorite tiramisu ANYWHERE!
