The Gift-Wrapping Ritual
Every year, I wait until just a few days before Christmas to wrap all my presents. I gather all the gifts, bring out this year’s “signature Caroline” wrapping paper (selected after many hours deliberating over the perfect print), and assemble an assortment of festive ribbon. Cue the holiday tunes, and I set into a wrapping fugue.
This fondness for gift-wrapping is nothing new, however—I’ve always been enticed by the activity’s need for precise cuts and crisp folds. I used to relish the opportunity to hone my skills as a volunteer gift-wrapper at the mall. When I took speech class in high school, my chosen “demonstration speech” topic was “How to Wrap a Present.”
Today was gift-wrapping day here at the B-Hut, and I am quite pleased with the results.
Chester approves too.
How about you? When it comes to wrapping presents—love it or hate it?
Aside from all that wrapping-induced glee, I enjoyed some delicious eats.
As we all know, banana-bloob is one of my all-time favorite oatmeal flavor combinations. The addition of coconut butter makes it perfection.
For lunch, I improvised a simple butternut squash curry.
Dinner was a special affair, as it featured a Tofurky Roast. I received a coupon for a full feast a few weeks ago, and I was delighted to finally give it a taste this evening. Here is Seth’s rendering of the Broccoli Hut Tofurky Feast:
Here’s the actual documentation:
The Tofurky flavor was deliciously salty, and the stuffing was a savory treat. I skipped the gravy, as it looked, well, icky.
There’s also an Amy’s vegan chocolate cake that we’re saving for later in the week. We’ve got plenty of cookies around here to keep our sweet teeth satisfied:)
Alright, we are all off to take our annual tour of Christmas lights! Ta-ta!

I think I just maybe have to take your idea for bsquash- chickpea curry! Recently I made my own version of indian- spiced roasted chickpeas– so delicious
…And I’ve never gotten around to buying the tofurky feast. Something about it seemed “off” and there would be much to many leftovers as I’m the only veggie in my fam.

Yes, I worried about the leftovers thing too, as I’m the only veg in my family too. BUT Seth is a bit like a garbage disposal and will eat pretty much ANY leftovers:)
I am right there with you on the wrapping… it’s one of my most favorite Christmas activities. I tend to just use a random assortment of paper, however- I love your coordination!
I love love loveeee wrapping presents! It’s one of my favorite parts of Christmas and I, too, spend hours picking out the perfect prints lol so funny!
That tofurky feast looks amazing btw <3
I LOATHE wrapping presents. I have my mom do it
Nice job with the wrapping. I get into as well and make it part of the holiday experience.
your wrapped presents for some reason remind me of the box of trader joe’s candy cane tea! hahaha i have NO idea why.
i hate wrapping presents. i’m just about to give my presents in the shopping bags they came in hahaha
I loooooooove wrapping presents! It’s one of the best parts of Christmas, in my opinion.
That tofurky roast looks great! I’ve seen those at Whole Foods a few times, but I have been kind of scared to try one. Maybe I’ll have to give it a go sometime…..
I’m the first one to admit that I am more than a little bit afraid of faux-meat – but your pictures may have inspired me to try it… someday! I think my biggest problem with it is that I am vegetarian that really didn’t like meat much before the “conversion” – so I am perfectly happy with soy and garbanzo beans (and the occasional morningstar patty).

I’m generally the same way–I don’t miss the taste of meat at all. However, the Tofurky roast was a nice change of pace and a fun way bring some festive eats to the table!
I save wrapping until Christmas Eve! It gets me right into the spirit.
We made the tofurky roast right before thanksgiving for a “faux thanksgiving party”… it was really fun!
I LOVE to wrap gifts. My dad and I always wrap gifts together it is a tradition and he is one of those people that is very particular about his wrapping. So by the time he has one wrapped I have about 5 haha.
I have never had tofurky before, but it looked really good!

Ha! Sounds like our dads are exact opposites. My dad’s idea of wrapping a present is rolling it up in tissue paper and calling it done.
I don’t love wrapping presents as much as I used to. Probably because I have far less time on my hands than I did as a high schooler, which was when I really loved it – that was the time when I finally had some money of my own to buy presents, but before any of the responsibility that came with it.
Merry Christmas!
I like wrapping presents too, always did!
Your banana blueberry oat bran looks delicious and I am happy to see a review of the tofurkey, I have been wanting to try it for a while, maybe I will get one for this holiday!
