The Joys of Costco
Tonight I write to you with a sense of satisfaction, not because I have completed some great feat, but rather because I scored some awesome deals at Costco. Over the past few months, I’ve noted the bargains that my fellow food bloggers have found at this discount warehouse. Sadly my parents belong to that other, less organics-friendly warehouse, but I recently learned that my dear sister Lea has a membership to Costco…let the sweet-talking begin. Fortunately, Lea agreed to accompany my Mom and me to the mecca of bulk discounts this afternoon. I flounced through the aisles as I came upon product after product that I need for The Broccoli Hut pantry: agave nectar? almond butter? dates? granola? Oh my! Although it was difficult to narrow it down, here is what I ended up in my cart:
Are you a bargain hunter when it comes to groceries? Do you belong to a discount club?
I managed to contain my excitement at least three times today for some tasty meals:
Monday
Major overflow on the chocolate shake last night. Man, you know how I hate that;)
Tuesday
Pumpkin-pear is almost as good as the pumpkin-banana combination in the taste department, but it was just as filling. This bowl of oat bran kept me going for 5 full hours.
By the time I returned from Costco, I was supah-hungry, so I made a quick Ginger Peanut Tofu Salad. If that looks like a lot of tofu, that’s because it is—a whole block, baby. Told you I was hungry.
After putting in some time on my research paper this evening, my stomach demanded some food again. I grabbed a few random ingredients from the fridge to create something like sloppy Joes and not quite sloppy lentils either—I used chickpeas, so I guess they’d be Sloppy Chicks? Anyway, it was a BBQ-tastic/delicious mess.
I think a viewing of Love Actually would be ideal for this evening’s agenda, don’t you? Have a relaxing evening and a great Wednesday!

I’ve always been to Sam’s Clu, but Costco looks 100% better, all that almond butter:)
Great meals, you are very creative!
That is THE cutest cinnamon shaker EVER!
WAHOO!! Did you look for Fage!? The Costcos up here don’t have Fage nor Maranatha (the only thing Durham wins at). I’m obsessed with that gingerbread man shaker. Oh my goodness.
How fun … I don’t have a Costco
but wish I did! Great finds!
That cinnamon shaker is adorable!
I think we belong to Costco, but never use it. Ours doesn’t carry the good stuff last I remember. I don’t need a 12 pound bag of Lays original
Love Actually ALWAYS puts me in a good mood!! Love that movie
And YUM. A pear-infused bowl of oats sounds delicious right now!!
I haven’t had the same success at costco. I just never need bulk in anything. I tire of it too easily! The dates caught my eye though because I’ve been wanting to make all these raw desserts floating around the blogosphere. I might just have to ask someone to pick them up for me!
Never thought to mix pumpkin and pears! Sounds delicious!
COSTCO = my true love!! I’m so sad I don’t have a car at school so I can’t go when I’m here but my parents are obsessed with Costco!!!
I love costco! Mine sells big cartons of Fage.. it’s great!
Mmm…I want some sloppy chicks. And so do frat boys. Buh dump puh. I’ll be here all week. Well, except maybe for Thanksgiving. Can’t wait to see what you are making!
The cinn sugar shaker is tooo cute!
The sloppy chickpea action sounds awesome!
Costco..have a membership, dont go. Too much produce all at once AND too much prepackaged snacky food that we dont want/need but get suckered into buying so it actually ends up costing me more than if i just go to TJs and reg groc and follow my list and buy on sale and seasonally.
I would love to go to Costco, I imagine it like some kind of promised land for us foodies…
I’m glad you enjoyed your visit, I know I couldn’t get out of there
ADORABLE cinn sugar shaker!!
I’m definitely a bargain-seeker! I do love Costco…it can be a bit too much for a single person like me, though.
Nawh. That gingerbread man is so adorable – is there a lady one hiding somewhere?
Oh gosh, I have a membership to a wholesale warehouse here in Aus, I like to go on my own and walked down every single aisle sloooowly. Asking myself, ‘do I need this’ many many times
Costco is zeee best!
so is that almond butter
Pumpkin and pear sounds a great combo! I still haven’t tried the pumpkin in oats. I know I’m disgraceful I admit but the canned stuff is pretty hard to find here in the UK- I do have a can but have not cracked it open yet! The simple chickpea dinner looks great too.
I like going to Costco with my family too because you get really good deals buying in bulk.. unfortunately I don’t go there anymore because there’s no way I can finish the big package of fruits that they sell.
bargainer buyer? yes, whenever I remember. But sometimes I just over-indulge and buy whatever I want.
i am a loyal costco member and love it! I get lots of produce, balsamic vinegar, nuts, EVOO, all the basics, I do however still love whole foods and trader jjoes and certainly am more of a frequent visitor to both of those stores! oh the laughing cow pacakge at costco is awesome!! takes me so long to get through
That cinnamon sugar shaker is ADORABLE!! I love it! I won’t lie, Costco makes me twitch – too many people are at the ones by me no matter what time it is.
That cinnamon sugar shaker is so cute!
I am a big bargain hunter- I don’t belong to Costco, but go to different stores if I know stuff is on offer. And majorly stock up when my favourites are a good deal (which was why my freezer had about 30 boxes of felafel last spring!) Hehe!
I love that shaker-man! So cute!
I can be a bit of a bargain-seeker…but I can also enjoy the less-affordable things every now and then!;)

We don’t have a costco by us so we belong to BJs….
I try to be a bargain hunter but typically don’t do so well!
