The Lady Gourmand
As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I have been working on a group project about My Life in France over the past few weeks. All our hard work came to fruition this evening in our presentation. The evening’s activities included a PowerPoint timeline of Julia’s life and work, a tutorial on omelet preparation (including a practice with dry beans), a demonstration on how to concoct a beurre blanc (white butter sauce), and a recreation of one of Julia’s favorite French meals.
My teammates and I had such a great time honoring Julia Child, arguably the most iconic “lady gourmand” of our time. It’s such a rare occasion that coursework becomes indistinguishable from a dinner party
Have you ever prepared a Julia Child recipe? Aside from the sauce I demonstrated today, I haven’t experimented with any of Ms. Child’s recipes. Perhaps a visit to the library is in order…
In comparison to Julia’s cuisine, mine seems like drivel, but I’ll show it to you anyway:
I had about three too many open bags of frozen berries this morning. Obviously, it was high time for a smoothie breakfast.
For lunch, I packed some Southern favorites: greens, black-eyed peas, and a sweet potato.
While I did plenty of snacking as part of my presentation, I was still hungry enough for a meal once I returned home. I marinated the tofu in a citrus vinaigrette and slapped it on the grill, and I prepared another batch of tasty roasted Brussels sprouts. My portion of the La Farm boule was the perfect accompaniment.
I am now off to relax. Wine seems appropriate. G’night.

What a cool presentation! I wanna take that class. Jealous.
Julia Child was actually a close friend of one of my relatives- he was in the OSS (the precursor to the CIA) with her husband Paul so they became close. I’ve never actually made any of her recipes, though! I should change that.
You and your fellow gourmands look so classy! I’m sure Julia would be proud.
I particularly like the purple smoothie for Wear Purple Day, though that might not have been your intention.
I like that all of your group also wore pearls. Very good. Sounds like a fun class project. I’ve never made any of Julia’s recipes either, and haven’t actually even taken a peek through her cookbook, but perhaps I should one of these days. Might add it to my list for books to get from the library.
Oh Caroline, your presentation layout looked amazing! Well done, along with your other group members. The classiness and cleanness is apparent in the photos
What recipe did you use for the citrus vinaigrette? I’d love to know
I saw the movie and just loved Julia child and here funny voice! I reallly love your blog I think in the last month I have been checking all your old archives and it´s really great. You have given me courrage to finde a healthy balance in my diet..thank you come check it out one in a while xxx
such a fun thing to do… recreating Julia’s cooking spot! I haven’t tried any of her recipe either… they seem complicated
I have never made any of Julia’s recipes, but I really want to. She was truly a pioneer. Cheese and grapes? That is my kind of dessert. How awesome are brussels right now? I plan to pick more up this weekend. Great job on the class project
The bread pics look amazing.
Hi! I just ran across your blog, and I love it! I see that you are in the process of getting a degree in nutrition…I am actually planning on going to school to get a Dietetics degree, and hopefully get a masters on top of that. Do you know of any schools out there that are very well-known for their nutrition programs? ANy help would be fantastic since I am now on the college search!
Great job on the project! That lunch looks yummy…
May I ask where you got that cute, little glass container for your almonds? I haven’t had any luck finding any myself.
Your photos are too much too comment on!
