The Salty Tooth
Given the frequency with which granola, Clif bars, and Banana Split Pancakes are featured on the Broccoli Hut, it should come as no surprise that I have a healthy sweet tooth. Some days, however, my tastebuds prefer an alternative portion of the flavor spectrum. Today was one such day—my salty tooth was beckoning in full force. Today alone, I’ve had tempeh bacon, cottage cheese, and olives throughout my meals. Such a salty combination sounds like a recipe for hypertension, right? Fortunately, these sodium-fests don’t occur too often in my diet in that I generally keep an eye on sodium counts; plus I like to justify my salt consumption by the fact that I am a “salty sweater.” Regardless, some days I just need a little (or a lot) savory action.
Do you ever have days in which you crave salty foods? What are some of your favorite salt bombs? Cottage cheese and BBQ sauce are definitely on the top of my salty indulgence list.
Onto the salt-tastic eats!
For breakfast this morning, I was apparently channeling my inner Elvis. Peanut butter and (tempeh) bacon make for one glorious breakfast. It was so tasty that apparently my camera decided to eat it…here’s a recycled picture from the past:
Lunch featured a Salad Lady favorite, the Greek salad. I was a little distraught when I discovered that my cupboards were bereft of my beloved chickpeas. I had to make do with some lame kidney beans instead.
Following my dining committee meeting, I raced to the salad bar for some wrap fixins’. Lucky for me, there was some stellar options today, including roasted eggplant.
Now I am off to hang out with Sethski. Ciao for now, lovelies.

Hello and welcome! I have created this blog for people who love food, especially healthful, vegetarian food.
I currently attend college in North Carolina, where I am studying English and psychology, although I plan on pursuing an additional degree in nutrition after I graduate. Ideally, I would like to combine my love of food and the written word someday as a health writer.

I crave salt like the sea, especially on days after a tough workout. I figure it must be needed to replenish sweat, though, and my body knows best
That sandwich sounds like a great combo! Very different but very delicious
I also love cottage cheese, fresh cucumbers with a sprinkle of sea salt and pickled cabbage and pickles!
I definitely crave salt now and then…usually after working out, but sometimes it happens randomly.
I agree…cottage cheese is on the top of my list, but I also love peanut butter for a salt craving. Yum!
My favorite salty food is pretzels. I love love love the salty sweet combo of chocolate covered pretzels!
Sometimes a sweet tooth needs some salt too!
BTW you and Seth are just too cute!
You make a great couple!

I have never thought to try pb and fakin bacon before. Interesting combo, I may just have to give it a try.
I. Love. Salt. This girl does not have a sweet tooth so cottage cheese, sharp cheeses, soy sauce, the more the merrier! Roasted eggplant?! Excellent addition!
I crave pickled veggies, the crunch and the vinegary saltiness. Yum!
PB, tempeh bacon and a banana sammie? All in one? Wow you for sure have me drooling all over the place. Im honestly not much of a salt person. If I get a craving I love making me a hummus pizza with pesto, roasted red peppers and veganaise. YUM!
