The Sleep-or-Blog Dilemma

To sleep or to blog? That is the eternal question. As much as I would prefer to read blogs before completing homework, blog-reading unfortunately gets banished to the last thing on my list for the day. My nightly ritual consists of blending up my smoothie and settling in to read about all the foodie happenings of the day. As you might expect, I look forward to this part of my schedule and like to savor every minute. Last night, however, my nasty illness got the best of me. At around 10:15 PM, my eyelids began to droop, and I did the unthinkable–I skipped my smoothie and blog-reading session! I don’t think I’ve gone to bed that early since high school! Although I missed my nightly foodie-fest, I must admit that getting 9-plus hours of sleep was quite refreshing. Do you ever sacrifice sleep for blog-reading? How about for some other hobby?

I am feeling well-rested now though, so hopefully I will be able to get my food blog fix tonight. Here’s what I chowed on today:

Thursday

I suffered a mild case of nausea last night (yet another reason for skipping my smoothie), so I was wary of trying another batch of savory oats. Instead, prepared a batch of tropical Cream of Wheat.

IMG_1395My lunch was inspired by a Vegetarian Times recipe for Tofu Rancheros. I was too lazy to look up the precise ingredients in my computer’s recipe file, so I just topped some whole wheat tortillas with the components I had on hand. As per usual, I didn’t have enough room on the tortillas for all my desired toppings, so I made a salad out of the extras.

Until tonight, I was a Honeycrisp virgin. Now, I am completely hooked. While this variety is quite pricey (I got them for $2.99/lb on sale), they are worth every penny. Honeycrisps=big globes of autumnal joy. Oh yeah, dinner also featured my warm sweet potato salad.

Alright, I am off to do sort through research on the following topic: fresh versus frozen vegetables. I’ll be sure to report my findings…Good night!

  1. Wow lady all of your eats looks absolutely delicious! I think I need to bookmark your warm sweet potato salad recipe as it sounds freaking amazing. Also, honey crisps are like a little piece of heaven on Earth. I love their crispy, crunchy, sweetness. YUM!

  2. Yes, Caroline. Me too. I sacrifice sleep for blog-reading. I wish I get paid for blog-reading. I would make millions.

  3. Haha I totally procrastinate at school by reading blogs. Foooor sure. I actually do most of my blog reading here in the early AM because it’s around midnight in the states and everyone’s posts from the day are up.

  4. I totally sacrfice sleep for a lot of things. Blogging, homework, tv, reading…it’s a bad habit!

  5. Looking good!
Just skip the sleeping and go blogging (joking, off course);)

  6. I can totally understand you dear… sometimes it’s not that you feel obligated to do it (blog) but you really want to do it because you enjoy so much. but at the same time your body needs rest. In this situation, I’d say go for the rest because otherwise you’ll feel weak the next day. One day without blogging isn’t the end of the world, specially it’s just your hobbie! :)
glad you had a good night sleep.

  7. Yes I DO sacrifice sleep, which is why I’m trying to blog less.

  8. I usually wake up earlyish and read blogs with coffee or bfast- but sometimes i sacrifice it for sleep, tv with the roomie, or going out! I love blogging but it’s nice to live life, or sleep instead!

  9. Ahh I usually put blogging over school work (whups) unless it’s major crunch time i.e. right before Fall Break. I love frozen vegetables because I can eat them at my own pace! The peppers from last night were from my very first grocery trip of the school year–almost 2 months ago!

  10. I love honeycrisp apples as well! What did you marinate your tofu in?

  11. Uhh my bedtime is between 9:30 and 10:00! LOL. what can I say I like my sleep!

that sweet potato salad recipe looks so comforting and delicious! Yum!

  12. Sometimes I end up sacrificing my sleep to stay up reading blogs and other stuff on the web, but I always pay for it in the morning. A good night of sleep is so important! All your food looks delicious by the way, especially the tofu rancheros. I hope you are feeling better today. :)

  13. As a mom, I sacrifice sleep for just about anything. Once my child is asleep, that’s the only time I have to do anything I want to do. Therefore, sometimes it’s more imp to read a magazine, eat, read mindless blogs, etc than it is to crash. It’s all a trade off but yeah totally sacrifice sleep for other stuff!

  14. I never sacrifice sleep, I’m pretty much always at least trying to fall asleep at 11. I’m sure my roomie thinks I’m crazy for that but nothing’s better than a good night of rest

  15. I’m so sorry you’re not feeling well! Sleep definitely takes precedence over blogging when you’re ill. Everything still looks great, though… I’m particularly digging that warm sweet potato salad!

  16. haha I definatly stay awake to blog read :( haha I probobly shouldnt! oh well

  17. Too tired for your usual smoothie?! You MUST have needed your rest! Nothing comes between me and my precious sleep!

That warm sweet potato salad looks fantastic – especially because it’s a rainy day here!

  18. I have to sacrifice blogging or limit it for sleep. I do read blogs everyday, but there are so many good ones out there that I can’t read every single one daily. Hopefully once school is on hold, I can read more :)

Honey crisp apples are totally worth every penny. I’ve been having one everyday, so delish!

  19. I need to give myself a blogging curfew so I get to sleep on time!

  20. Ah yes, the nightly blogging-takes-away-from-sleep quandary. I know it well. Blogging usually wins!

I’m gonna have to give in and try these honeycrisp apples I hear so much about.

  21. i am acuatlly so happy i never got into blogging while I was in college because I just dont see how i would have gotton any work done! i am going to study would turn into blogging, NO doubt!

so i have not sacrifed my sleep yet!! i think sleep is super important anad there is always time to blog! but i do love it :) and its addicting!!

  22. I sacrifice sleep for bloggin a lot. I’m often times up way later than I want reading or writing blogs! And lately I’ve been trying to get up about 30 minutes earlier to read some as well.
OMGosh sweet potato salad??? Sounds sooooo good.

  23. honeycrisp are all over the place at my local whole foods! they’re delish.

  24. ah that warm sweet potato salad sounds so good. i should be doing homework right now, but i always seem to read a million blogs before i get any motivation

  25. Yum, the Tofu Rancheros look wonderful!
Ugh, I’ve definitely given up many hours of sleep to catch up on blogging–there are nights though that I absolutely skip a day to get some sleep!
