To Each Her Own
Last May, I devoted a post to my doppelganger in honor of Mother’s Day. Indeed, Mumsy and I share many characteristics, from our introversion to our predilection for shoe-shopping. A conversation we had yesterday, however, indicates that we do occasionally have a difference in opinion. “Like mother, like daughter” apparently has only limited truth.
It all began yesterday morning when I logged onto Twitter and discovered a Tweet from Meghann:
“Doing some early Christmas shopping for that special runner in your life? Check out this awesome deal of the day… http://fb.me/FcOSoZsu”
Ever since my Nike+ went kaput a few months ago, I’ve been anxious to find some sort of mileage tracking device. The Garmin Forerunner is widely known among runners as an accurate way to measure mileage, and many (such as my marathoner brother-in-law Ryan) consider it essential to training. So, I was delighted to see that Amazon was selling the 205 model for such a low price. Merry (early) Christmas to me!
I called my mom to rave about the amazing bargain, expecting to win some major deal-finding points from the discount queen herself. Instead, she responded, “And you’re excited about this? You and I are so different.” Evidently, my mom just doesn’t get as psyched about running gear as I do. Nonetheless, her lack of enthusiasm did not attenuate my glee in the slightest—I can’t wait for my new toy to arrive next week!
Do you share a lot of interests with your parents?
Aside from obsessively tracking the delivery status of my Garmin, I did manage to eat some tasty meals today…
Today was a Green Monster kind of day. Banana-pineapple makes such a tasty combination.
Remember last week when I mentioned upcoming flavor trends? Well, I decided to put one of them to work in my lunch today in that I paired (tempeh) bacon and cinnamon. It was indeed a delicious combination!
For dinner, I prepared a modified version of a recipe I spotted on Chef Chloe’s blog for Creamy Pumpkin Penne. It was a perfect mélange of autumnal flavors! I added chickpeas for protein.
I now have an evening of homework and Food Network ahead of me. Good night!

I love Chef Chloe! Her recipes rock.
I’m very much like my parents in some ways, and in some ways so different. Interesting, though, is that I’m about a 50-50 split of their personalities.
I saw Meghann’s post, too! Let me know how you like the garmin! I’m seriously considering one because I think it will help a lot with my running..maybe a good motivator?!

The penne sounds yummy.
Do you know the name of that culinary article that mentions the bacon and cinnamon, and the other flavors? Thanks!
It’s funny your mom’s answer. Unfortunately I don’t share the same interests as my mom in term of food and fitness in general, but we do share a lot of others things in common, like shopping clothes?
