Today in History
I’ll be honest, chicos. I’m struggling for a topic this evening. Desperate for inspiration, I just performed a quick blog search for this day in Broccoli Hut history; said search yielded some interesting/creepy results.
On August 24, 2009, I waxed poetic on the vast array of grains in my pantry. (Totally normal, right?) Creepily enough, I prepared Goddess Garbanzos for lunch, just as I did today.
On August 24, 2008, I was playing a game of catch-up after moving into my on-campus apartment. As you’ll read in the post, I rave about the wonders of wheat germ and scrambled tofu.
Given the abundance of chickpeas, tofu, and cottage cheese in these posts, my food tastes have remained pretty consistent over the years…and I’m OK with that. Routine is comforting to me, from the foods I eat to my exercise schedule to my smoothie method. While I’ve been diggin’ on the same foods for several years now, I don’t think I’m in danger of developing any nutritional deficiencies due to lack of variety.
How have your food preferences changed over the past few years?
Aight, y’all. Let’s talk about August 24, 2010.
So I’ve decided that pumpkin yogurt is kind of life-changing. There is no bliss like that of a creamy, dreamy pumpkin cloud.
I packed up my lunch for class again today, featuring a long-time favorite recipe, Dreena Burton’s Goddess Garbanzos.
A few weeks back, I noticed a recipe for apple slaw in Clean Eating (Sept/Oct 2010 issue). While the recipe called for cabbage slaw, I substituted broccoli slaw because…well do I really need to justify the use of broccoli whenever possible? BBQ tofu accompanied the delish slaw.
Alright, Seth and I must make a Target run for a “small toy that squirts water.” I just go along, my friends. Good night.

pumpkin yogurt?! Oh my goodness. That sounds…wonderful. How do you go about that? Just blend them together?
Yeah I could definitely eat Greek yogurt, CREEMs, smoothies, nut butter and the like for as long as I live
I do think that if and when I have children, my eats will change a bit. Not sure how but I sense it.
…at this rate that won’t be happening for decades
Yes! please do tell us more about this pumpkin yogurt. Do you make it yourself or or buy it? Either way, those waffles look divine!
I think my food preferences have definitely changed over the past few years. In college, although I knew about nutrition, I was eating mostly processed foods from our school’s icky foodservice. In grad school and over the past year, I’ve increased my vegetable intake and cut out a lot of dairy, which has helped my energy levels a ton!
Apple slaw looks yummy, recently fell in love with that stuff and have always loved apples!
Squirt gun fun!
all of your food looks great, like always! I luuurve garbanzos mmm
My food preferences remain relatively the same, but they change slightly. I eat the same things, but in just different ways. Does that make sense?
I love the BBQ tofu & Avocado combination!!! yummy!
My food preferences have changed over the past year, for the better! Probably the most remarkable change was after moving out of the dorms and into my own apartment. That’s also when I started reading blogs.
I love thinking to myself ‘This time last year or last week I was doing X’ ;D
That yoghurt looks oh so good, too bad pumpkin isnt a big seller over here.
Im a creature of habit too, but I want to be more adventurous.
xx
I realize that I’m eating more conventional food lately
I had pumpkin yogurt in my oatmeal this morning.
I used coconut yogurt and about 1/3 cup pumpkin. It was a nice combination.
My food preferences have changed quite a bit. I crave veggies instead of meat/cheese.
hahahahaha so funny because yesterday i was checking out my posts from a year ago too! my foodie choices have changed a bit but in a good way! less processed junk and more whole foods which is how i like iiiiiiiiiiiiit
I forgot about pumpkin yogurt! And that apple slaw looks delish. I think my food habits are all over the place but certain things have stayed consistent over time (like my love for broccoli and chocolate)!
Haha, I LOVE going back to my blog and seeing what I was doing on this day one year ago. Kind of frightening how much things have changed, and then how some things haven’t changed at all!
Pumpkin gives me the heebeejeebees. I just can’t do it :\
Haha! I totally feel you on the lack of inspiration, but look at what a great record you have of years past! That’s what excites me most about blogging.
And yummy tofu dish!
Emily
i love looking back at years past! ironically, julie posted about this as well, so i looked at my blog a year ago~ i have the same workout planned today as i did last year! odd.
i forgot about pumpkin+greek yogurt! i ate it a lot last fall, i am excited to get back into pumpkin eating again
could your lunch tote get any cuter?! i loooove the polka dots!
i was just thinking today how my eats have changed over the years–i’ve definitely gotten more creative + experimental with my meals, they’re more balanced, and i include more “treats” in my diet …which is always a good thing!
enjoy your tar-jay trip pretty lady!!
