Torn
Yes, tonight, you could say that Natalie Imbruglia would provide the perfect soundtrack. Why? Because I am faced with seriously conflicting loyalty. Tonight, Duke and the University of Alabama at Birmingham face off on the basketball court.
Do I cheer for UAB, the institution that employs my father and at which I myself took summer courses? Or, do I cheer on Duke, my alma mater, the team for which I slept in a tent for nearly 2 months? My basketball heart is torn.
Psh. Who am I kidding? GO BLUE DEVILS!
I have a (friendly) bet on this game, actually. Allie (fellow Dukie) and I will each have a batch of baked goods headed our way from Matt (Bama-fan) if Duke pulls through. Keep your fingers crossed:)
Are you loyal to a particular sports team? Which one(s)?
Here’s how I’ve been gearing up for tonight’s competition.
Pumpkin-coconut is where it’s at, my friends.
Lunch was Ellie recipe #5, Chickpea and Spinach Salad with Cumin Dressing.
My tweaks:
-non-fat Greek yogurt instead of regular non-fat yogurt, because well, I really like Greek yogurt.
-agave nectar in lieu of honey, simply because it’s what I had on hand.
I’ve actually made a modified version of this salad before, so the flavors were familiar. I love the cumin dressing—it’s simply a combination of yogurt, honey (or agave nectar, in my case), orange juice, and orange zest. The only downside? I had nasty onion breath all afternoon.
If you’d like to try this recipe for yourself, it’s available on FoodNetwork.com: Spinach & Chickpea Salad with Cumin Dressing
For dinner, I wanted something quick so I could catch tip-off. Scrambled tofu to the rescue.
Here we go Devils, here we go!

I am totally digging those bowls
I was just listening to this song a few days ago. The 90′s had the best music.
Torn?!?! How is that even possible? Duke all the way for life!
…basketball at least haha

@ Sarah (the SHU box) I knew you’d approve of this post:)
I’ve never been a huge sports buff, but I do *love* watching the Red Sox.
And I always watch the Super Bowl if the Patriots are in it, which makes me a horrible fair weather fan.
definitely loyal to the Ohio State Buckeyes! They just won the sugar bowl, so I’m really excited!
