Treadmill Buddy Update
**If you have no interest in Caroline’s love life, please feel free to scroll down**
If you happened to read Friday’s post, you’ll recall that I recently had the good fortune to meet a friendly guy at the gym, he who has been referred to as “Treadmill Buddy.” As I mentioned before, we seemed to get along really well in that we managed to talk with ease for two hours during our coffee date. Well, via various means of communication (e.g., Facebook Chat, AIM, and phone), we have talked everyday since Friday, for at least 2-3 hours each time! It’s a bit strange to think that I now know this person so well, yet I just met him last Thursday. Anyway, much to my surprise, he asked me out for a date on Tuesday (the first day I am back at school). Obviously, I am excited about the prospect, but I am a little nervous too—at the ripe old age of 21, I have actually never been on a legitimate date! Advice? Tips?
As a result of all this excitement, I have not been very productive these past few days, neither in terms of schoolwork nor in the kitchen. Here’s what I’ve managed to cobble together of late:
Tuesday
Sadly, my Spirutein stash is pretty minimal at home—hence the abundance of hemp-tastic smoothies these days,
Wednesday
After a brisk run this morning, I wanted something quick…and salty. A (Rachel’s) cottage cheese bagel fit the bill.
Goddess Garbanzos made an appearance at lunch, along with my favorite sides.
I had planned on making a big batch of pumpkin chili for dinner, but my appetite has been strangely MIA all day. When the faintest sense of hunger finally arrived, the lazy girl in me came out, and I just heated up some boxed soup with a few add-ins. Truth? Low-sodium soups like this always taste a bit bland to me. I definitely added salt at the table!
I suppose I should start thinking about my menu for tomorrow evening. I’m thinking some sort of acorn squash dish…stay tuned to see what I come up with!

GIRL! rock it! sorry ihave no advice tips/ i went on my “first date” when i was 23! so don’t say you’re old!
and i didn’t even know it was a date! HILARIOUS.
I hope you said yes! From a guy’s perspective, being left hanging is the worst
Those little pitas are darling!
And yay for the date! how exciting! I have no tips.. I’ve been with the same guy since my freshman year of highschool! lol
I’m having acorn squash tomorrow TOO–well and many other things. We are foodie twins times a quadrillion!
Yayyyy I’m 21 and I’ve never been “on a date” either
I’m really picky about guys. I sometimes get nervous, because I’m not really dating yet but some of my friends are MARRIED. I think I’m falling behind
GOOD LUCK on your date! Just be yourself, and don’t overthink it.
awwee! A date!
How fun!
that is so exciting. Just totally be yoruself, darling. and it will all go fine
yay a date!! just have fun..and tell yourself its totally normal..you have nothing to lose..enjoy yourself.. u deserve it!
Olalala. You guys will have a blast on ya first date I’m sure. Just relax n be yourself & all will be fine
Hope u have a kick-ass great thanksgiving with ya family
Just be yourself. I had a friend once say to me…don’t pretend to be anyone that you’re not. Why would you want to rob them of the amazing person that you truly are? I loved it. Enjoy the journey. Remember…either way of how it goes..you’re a beautiful, strong and capable person. Have FUN!
good news!!!
tips? just be yourself, be natural and let you know each other (I mean you knowing him and letting him knowing the true you).
hey! haven’t commented in awhile but knew i had to on this!
when it comes to dating, really just be yourself. nothing more nothing less. treadmill buddy is probably just as nervous as you are! do you know what you’re doing yet? if not, i found in the past (i just moved in with my boyfriend of a year!) that doing something fun and engaging i.e. mini golf, bowling, thrift store shopping, is the best first day to have. you can talk but also not worry about those awkward silences since you’re doing something as well. anddddd if you go to dinner after or talk later after you part, or whatever, you immediately have something silly and lighthearted to talk about!
good luck…keep me, er, blog readers updated ! i love hearing about (potentially) blossoming romances
You know the drill… CONTACT BRIAN BOITANO!!
Aww, I’m so happy for you! Just be yourself and have fun.
I’ve been out of the dating game for too many years to give any (good) advice, but I hope you end up having a great time!
Oooooh!! Treadmill buddy sounds like he’s a smooth one isn’t he?
I’ve definitely been there! My first real date was also when I was 21, but honestly I just wanted to get to know the guy better and see if we have fun! I won’t lie, it’s hard to “be yourself” the ENTIRE time, so flirt a little and really just be your sweet, positive self. WHAT a lucky guy. Good luck hun!! i”m not worried about you!! Just make sure he’s a good guy though ok?
Ps I HAVE to try the avo in soup idea!! That’s AWESOME!!!
Have a great time on your date!
Just be yourself and carry a smile!
omg! yay for the date– you must be sooo excited!!
as for tips– i try not to get too personal on first dates– men think mystery=sexy. therefore i dont answer questions that are super personal and i never talk about ex boyfriends! and i never call/text a guy after the first date– i thikn its his job
omg have a blast! just relax and be yourself– sounds trite but its so true!!!!
xoxoxox
WOW! I love these soup-add ins! You are the queen of this! I’m excited for your date! You’re going to be great. Just be you and the rest will follow. After all, if you’ve already been communicating via IM, phone, FB, etc., he already knows you and knows you’re an awesome person!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Ooooh, yay, I’m so excited for you Caroline
Just be yourself and enjoy the date! That’s all there is to it!
I agree that low sodium soups are pretty bland. I have to add salt to mine as well!
Can’t wait to see the acorn dish you are cooking up!
aww, have fun on your date! if he thought you were cute at the gym, then he will definitely think you are cute in your real clothes
. even though its cliche “being yourself” is the #1 best thing you can do. oh, and if you are going out to eat, maybe try reaching for your purse as the bill comes to show that you are willing to help with the check….a southern gentleman will probably refuse and pay for you on a first date, but its a nice gesture. good luck and have fun! and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Hi
I like your blog. Maybe you will visit mine and I can put you on my blogroll?
I also enjoy writing about health.
Have a nice day.
I am very happy for you and “Treadmill Buddy” and I hope to be seeing some photos of this guy soon.
Your story reminds me so much of my first encounters with my boyfriend. Ahh, the sweet, sweet memories.
Good luck!
Great smoothies, I am going to try one soon with my hemp protein powder that I haven’t opened/used yet. :/
Good luck with your date!! ; ) Can’t wait to see how it goes.
Have so much fun on your date! I’m so curious who this mystery person is now, but of course, I completely understand it if you don’t reveal him on here (for now, in any case
)
Happy thanksgiving!
I have plans for an acorn squash for lunch tomorrow!
I love hearing about treadmill buddy – keep us posted!
im loving how direct treadmill guy is being! im all about it. no games = healthy relationship
if you got him to ask you out in your sweaty gym state (no judgement, just picturing myself post-treadmill…its not pretty) then you already have him in the palm of your hand. just remember to take no BS – you are one sexy thang and you deserve your equal in a date!!
Oooooh, it’s really awesome he asked you out for a date! You deserve it!
Sorry, I can’t give you any (good) advice on first dates but just let me assure you that you’re not the only one to be late on the “first date-thing” (had mine few months ago and I’m 18). I ended up blushing and nervously playing with my key (ugh, so stupid) but it kept getting better.
Aww, so glad things with the treadmill buddy have been working out..too exciting! I have no good dating advice except to just be yourself…if it’s meant to work out, it will!
CAROLINE MY DEAR – woowoo for a date! i honestly probably didn’t go out on a real date until college too
. just have fun, be yourself and don’t worry about a thing – i always figure if a guy doesn’t like you because you get nervous/say something weird/etc…then there is NO future there. so just kick back and enjoy! keep us up to date
hope you had a fabulous thanksgiving girl!
AHHHHHHHH i won’t lie that i read the love life part and scrolled through the food so i could comment haha.
this is so exciting
it’s gonna be so awesome so don’t stress at all espesh because you already talk so much that you will have PLENTY of things to talk about! can’t WAIT to hear about it
p.s.
are you gonna take food pics on your date…
haha
Oh man, that’s so cute! Just relax and have fun! I’m sure it’s going to be awesome.
Good luck on your first date! How exciting! I think the fact that you’ve already talked to him so much will make it way better than if you were truly getting to know each other for the first time. Try to relax and enjoy it!
