Trendy Eats

What do egg whites, brown rice, processed soy protein, and baked potato chips have in common?

Aside from being diet-friendly, all these items have also have relegated to the “trending out” list of foods.

In addition to these foods, “activities trumping mealtime” and “elimination diets” are declining in popularity—both are positive changes in my book!

Just as some foods lose favor in the public, so do other foods gain tremendous attention. The predicted trendy eats of 2012 include: real butter, whole eggs, stevia, and kefir.

Bring on the cholesterol and natural sweets—it all balances out, right?

Do you like any of the foods on the “trendy eats” for 2012 list? Which ones are your favorites?

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go get creative with kefir.

I know, me too. I can’t believe it took me so long to discover the joys of a fried egg.

  2. I am a sucker for these type of lists! Thanks for posting.

  3. I love egg whites- and all eggs!- and brown rice! Had whites for breakfast, whole eggs for lunch, and brown rice for dinner!

  4. Ive used kefeir for my overnight oats for a long time- its the perfect texture since oats get more moisture to soak up….:) and all summer i would freeze it for a few hours to get frozen yogurty-
Brown rice??? Isnt that old news? And im surprised kale didnt make the list- its on every menu in nyc (altho usually paired with lots of cheese, nuts, oily dressing and meat :/)

Wow, both of those kefir ideas sound delicious! I love the sound of frozen kefir, and I’m always up for a new way to enjoy overnight oats. Thanks for the tips!

  5. I’ve never tried kefir but I do love brown rice and eggs!

  6. I’ve never tried kefir before! It sounds yummy!

  7. Brown rice is such a staple in my diet- I can’t believe it’s “trending out”! I’ll definitely be glad to see the elimination diet trend die down though.
I’ve never tried kefir but I’ve been meaning to. Looks like 2012 is my year!

  8. I like all the foods on both lists, I have to admit I am a fan of good french butter and sometimes nothing is better then an egg. I have never seen the reasoning behind elimination diets, to me it is like taking out half a library. I think a moderation diet or even reduce items that are of concern to a person is a healthy choice. i like the kefir ideas as well.

  9. kefir: great for Scrabble and the lactose intolerant.

    Kefir = 12 points X triple word score = 36 points. Impressive.

  10. Not brown rice! It’s such good stuff. I try to eat vegan, but I have to admit that eggs — whole eggs — are a weakness of mine. Real butter is tasty, but I can live without it.

  11. whole eggs and real butter? i don’t see anything wrong with either of those things. yuuuuuuuuum.
