Tweaks for 2010

Now that I have adequately bid farewell to 2009, I can welcome 2010 this evening. As is typical for this time of year, I have assembled a list of things I’d like to change/improve upon in the upcoming months. I prefer not to label them as “resolutions,” but rather as “tweaks.” In the interest of realism, I don’t intend on turning my life around in just one year; I am much more likely to alter and maintain my habits if I make smaller goals. Here is my list for 2010:

1. Floss. This is on my list every year, and I am never satisfied with my progress in oral hygiene.

2. Protect my skin. As you might guess by my pasty complexion, I don’t spend much time in the sun, nor does my skin tan easily. Still, this does not mean I shouldn’t take the necessary precautions, especially when I am running outdoors. I guess I need to invest in a running hat!

3. Be grateful. It’s so easy to take all the blessings in my life for granted, but I want to be sure that I express my appreciation for these unmerited gifts in the upcoming year.

4. Run a 10K. As evidenced by my running page, I have several 5Ks under my belt now, and I think I am ready to tackle longer distances. I have my first 10K scheduled for February 14th!

5. Complete a double-digit run. My PR for distance thus far is 7.5 miles…let’s see if I can make it 10.

6. Sing. As I’ve mentioned previously, I spent approximately 8 years of my life on vocal training. Once I arrived at college though, that hobby all but vanished from my life, perhaps as a result of slightly depressed mood. Nonetheless, I would like to return to this old passion of mine in 2010.

7. Live in the present. I’ve wasted far too much time in my life either worrying about the future or griping about my past struggles. This year will be about enjoying what life has to offer right now.

What are your “tweaks” for 2010?

I am posting earlier in the day today, as I am uncertain as to whether I will be able to blog later, in the midst of our New Years celebration. Here’s how the last day of 2009 has shaped up so far:

Wednesday

Peach-pineapple smoothie with pumpkin granola. I couldn’t have gotten more alliteration in there if I had tried.

Thursday

After a run through the fog this morning, I returned to a fruit bowl tragedy—we were out of bananas! I resorted to apples in my oatmeal instead.

For lunch, I used up some leftover roasted acorn squash from last night to make acorn squash soup. I added in some chickpeas for protein and served it up with some fire-roasted Dr. Krackers. Major yummage.

Alright, I am off to peruse the latest issue of Runner’s World and perhaps take a nap in preparation for a late night tonight. Happy New Year to all!

I don’t make resolutions, but my goal this year is on your list, the number 7. I have worried too much about what’s to come and rued enough about the past, but now I decided that it is the time to be happy, and be happy right now! I too am so blessed and cannot complain about a thing so I will make every minute of my life count from now on and do my best to make this the best year of all.
What we are today is due to what we have lived so we gotta be grateful for our life so far and start enjoying it even more now, right?!
Wish you all the best ever this year and that all your wishes come true!
I discovered your blog in 2009 and it has been of wonderful inspiration to me so I am super grateful for that and am looking forward to read more broccoli hut in the years to come!
