(Un) Contained Joy
This past weekend, aside from gallivanting as American’s favorite condiments, Seth and I stopped by the newly opened Raleigh location of The Container Store.
Immediately upon setting foot in the store, my eyes beheld rows upon rows of neat containers and organization tools, not to mention hoards of women “oohing and aahing” over these items’ ingenuity. I was fairly certain that my fellow shoppers like label-making and color-coding as much as I do; I was among friends.
After a few moments’ distraction by the Christmas wrapping paper display, I set about my intended mission. If you’ve watched my pantry organization video, you know that keeping my foodstuffs orderly is a priority in my life. Now that I have my own apartment, I have a whole new pantry to sort out. All those unappealing bags and boxes have been grating on my nerves for the past 3 months, so it was high time I invested in some containers.
I also purchased some containers for my bathrooms drawers, but I figured you didn’t really want to see my prescriptions, hairy brush, and crusty retainer.
Do you consider yourself an organized person?
Here’s a look at the meals yielded from my newly organized pantry…
So I’ve decided that pretty much everything tastes better grilled, including this banana-sunflower butter sandwich. So gooey. So melty. So delicious. (Served with pumpkin yogurt!)
For lunch, I packed a colorful salad with a shot of my Ginger Peanut Dressing.
Once home for dinner, I made a hearty bowl of vegetable soup featuring bulgur and black-eyed peas.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, Mrs. Doubtfire beckons for my attention.

The Container Store is awesome
Is that where you get your super cute dressing containers? (Have I mentioned how I love how you pack your lunches?)
Ha, I did the same recently at the Container Store- got in spending $70 or so, not bad
I still live with my parentals, so I can’t really do what I want on the organizational level, but I try to container-ize a lot of my grains, dried beans, nuts and seeds, etc. But I have so many of them and not enough containers- it’s aggravating!
You and I would get along well- considering organization, food and much more!
yayyy for soup for dinner
I love the container store- so many neat ways to organize your stuff. I am semi organized. I hate clutter and can’t have a cluttered counter top. However, sometimes my drawers get a little out of control. Grilled sandwiches are much better. I always enjoy how they make nut or seed butters extra gooey.
Hi Caroline! I have been following your posts for a little while, and felt I had to comment when I saw this, as I too am a container collector! It’s a little ridiculous the number of plastics I own (we call them Tupperware in Australia).
I live in my own apartment too, and when I first moved in, the first thing I did (before assembling all the furniture etc), was organise the pantry space lol. I think for me it’s a product of being a bit of a health freak in general, I can’t help it!
I am particularly impressed with your dried fruit and nuts organisation btw, mine is very similar looking, except that I store them all in the fridge (bc at uni they scared us into worrying about nuts and oxidation!).

ps couldn’t agree more about the grilled sandwhich, my motto is ‘everything tastes better in the sandwhich press’!
I’m so going to try grilling my banana and butter sandwiches. Looks delicious.
Look at all those wonderful containers! I need to stock up on some new cereal/oatmeal containers soon as well.
Your salad looks wonderful! So much color and variety.
I’m not an organized person per se… but love buying at container store!
i’m pretty sure i would be in love with the container store, too…i’m definitely an organization freak.
i just watched mrs. doubtfire this week, too! so hilarious. robin williams is fantastic!
I love the Container Store! When one first came to my town, I was one of the people waiting outside before it opened.
Money goes quickly in there though. I’d say I’m messy organized. I know where everything is, but someone else would think it’s cluttered.
holy shiz woman – you are organized! i am nowhere near that organized, but i do like organizing. does that make sense? i don’t know.
happy thursday
I need to whip out the panini press one of these days when im craving the usual banana and AB- sunflower butter is delicious too. Maybe I should even use justins chocolate AB.. dangerous. haha I hope you were dipping that warm goodness into the bowl of creamy yogurt!
I function soo much better when I’m organized! Love your containers for everything
That soup looks incredible, perfect for a rainy day like we’re having here in Boston today. I also love the Container Store but have better luck at IKEA. I am obsessed with my glass jars that keep my nuts and dried fruit organized and pretty!
My whole world would be in bell jars and glass containers and colorful baskets if I could afford it. I LOVE being organized!!
Lovely as always, Caroline!
I’m getting total envy over that uber-organized pantry. I am low on containers myself.
