Valentine’s Bouquet
So, in case you didn’t know, Thursday is Valentine’s Day. Seth and I have never really placed much emphasis on this holiday, mostly because I’ve had midterms on February 14th for the past three years. Professors are just so thoughtful that way.
Now that I’m no longer a student and have time to celebrate, I felt like I should add a little Valentine’s Day spirit to the house. I happened to see this segment on the Today Show this morning, and it seemed like a project that even I, the remedial crafter, could handle.
Valentine’s Bouquet
Materials
- glass vase (clean and dry)
- small jar to fit inside vase (also clean and dry)
- water
- Valentine’s candy (amount will vary according to the size of vase)
- fresh flowers
Method
1. Pour a small amount of water into the small jar. Then place the small jar inside the vase. Depending on the height of the jar and the flowers you’re using, you might want to add some candy at the bottom of the vase before you place the jar inside the vase. I ended up doing that after the picture was taken. Hey, I told you I was a remedial crafter.
2. Start placing candy around the jar. Be careful not to let candy land in the jar of water (trust me, it’s a pain to get them out).
3. Once you’ve surrounded the jar with candy, place the flowers in the jar. That’s it.
How do you feel about Valentine’s Day? Love it or hate it? I’m somewhere in between, I think. I always like an excuse to eat a little chocolate, but Valentine’s Day has never been of much importance to me.

We usually stay in on Valentine’s Day because the restaurants will be crowded and charge twice as much. I cook Brian his favorite meal and, if he knows what’s good for him, he brings flowers and my favorite chocolates.
Such a fun bouquet! Very festive. I like Valentine’s day. I think its a very “cute” holiday. I wish people would just enjoy the treats and not get so hung up in the gift giving process
Cute bouquet! I liked Valentine’s Day in early grade school when we would put wrapping paper and other decorations on our valentine’s boxes. Everyone in the class gave a valentine to everyone (so no one felt left out and there was no competition to have more than everybody else) and then we would have some kind of treat, most often a cupcake. That was far better than geography class.
Then we would take them home and look at the valentines and see who gave which ones and exclaim over who gave the same ones as we did (proof of superior taste). Good times.

Haha! Your comment made me think of when I gave out N’Sync valentines. I thought they were the COOLEST.
Very pretty! I would say I’m somewhere in between, too. Anniversaries are definitely more special and celebrated between Bobby and me, but it’s always nice to have an excuse to make a yummy dinner and drink wine…not that we don’t do that often enough anyway, haha.
Still, I’m a sucker for festive decorations!
That bouquet is a really cute idea! It would probably look really cute with those candy hearts as well. I’m not too big on Valentines Day either. I usually make plans to hang out with a girlfriend and do date like things with them instead like watch a movie, eat chocolate, drink some good wine.
Since this is our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple, I told my husband to get me nothing and I mean it. I don’t need any stuffed animals, chocolate, or flowers. But for my birthday, spoil me. Lol.
Love that bouquet! Very pretty.
I’ve just never thought about it much-probably because I have been perpetually single for, well, all of them…BUT maybe this is my year! Not this Thursday, but 2013 in general. Ya know what I mean!
I tried this with red tulips and conversation hearts. It was very cute the first day, but the tulips need a lot of water. They looked very droopy and sad the second day. They did perk up with some more water, but of course I splashed and spilled into the candy. Conversation hearts don’t like water. I’m definitely not a decorating diva.

That’s exactly why I didn’t choose the classic conversation hearts–I knew I’d get water on them and make a chalky mess. You’re right about the tulips wilting too–they were looking a little sad this morning so I added more water.
Ohh, cute, love the idea Caroline!!!

What a cute idea! I’ve never really prepared any kind of bouquet or centerpiece that wasn’t already made. I’ll think about this for next year!
