Virtual Recipe Box

A recipe box. Do you have one? While I have been enticed to buy one in the past (a cherry-emblazoned model sticks out in my memory), I always talk myself out of it and stick to my “virtual recipe box.” After all, I get most of my recipes online; copy-and-pasting them into my computer’s “Recipe” file is a so much simpler than typing or copying them onto recipe cards. Still, there is something to be said for having a hard copy of my favorite recipes–I have had multiple mishaps while cooking with my computer around (i.e., serious splattering). How do you keep your recipes organized?

Today was a relatively recipe-free day, however, no recipe box required. Check out the goods:

Monday

After this pleasant smoothie experience, I am thinking I should try for a quadruple-berry concoction next time.

I think my Tweet earlier today said it all: “Coconut butter is the shizzz.” It’s true. Try some for yourself, ASAP. Oh yeah, aside from the coconut magic, this bowl also included strawberries (half cooked into the cereal, half used as “decoration”) and Crispy Green freeze-dried bananas. I added the bananas during the cooking process, so they kind of re-hydrated by the time I sat down to eat. These make a great stand-in for those days when all your ‘naners are too green to eat yet (as was the case for me today).

After another TJ Maxx rendezvous, I came home hungry. I opened up the fridge, and Sunday’s gazpacho called to me. Damn, this stuff is good. Here is the recipe my dad used. I added beans for protein.

I made a ginger-peanut tofu salad for dinner, roughly based on this recipe, although I added my own spin with some celery and ground red pepper.

I was still a bit “peckish” after dinner so I dug into my bar stash and found this ancient LUNA. It’s been a while since my last LUNA, so this was surprisingly sweet and tasty. What do you think of LUNAs? Do you have a favorite flavor? I am much more of a classic Clif girl these days (as evidenced by this post).

Please try to ignore my orange hands;)

Alright, now I must give my undivided attention to The Little Couple. Ciao, lovelies!

  1. I don’t have a recipe box! All my recipes are so unorganized. I need to get one!

  2. Coconut butter is the shizz!

I have absolutely no organization to my recipes, although I don’t tend to save many from online either. I keep thinking I should do up a database of recipes or make myself a fancy book, because I can’t take my computer into the kitchen with me, so I’m always running back and forth.

  3. I really need to organize my recipes out more. I keep them in 3 places: 1. I bookmark them 2. copy and paste to word or 3. store them in my recipe file, print them out, and put them in my recipe binder–which is about to explode at any moment now ;) .

Luna bars are good, but they’re more like a dessert to me because of the sweet factor. I love the White Chocolate Macadamia, caramel nut brownie, and cranberry and nuts (sounds something like that). I don’t have it too often, but I usually don’t eat too many bars, and if I do they’re usually raw food bars or luna bars or vega bars.

  4. I love my mom’s recipe box. Aside from a collection of stained cookbooks, my recipes are just on my computer, like most of my life seems to be!

I’ve never tried coconut butter, but I am certain it cannot be bad :)

  5. I can’t ever seem to get into luna bars. I have no idea why!
I think I need to give them another shot. IT’s been a couple of months.

  6. I don’t have a recipe box. I want to though with calligraphy writing, haha. Your cream of wheat looks soo cute!

  7. All the cool kids ate ED&BV tofu tonight. Oh, and ED&BV IS my recipe collection…didn’t you know ;) ?

  8. i have been the worst blogger ever lately so I am so sorry for not commenting the past couple of posts but I am back and ready to comment away. My mom totally has a recipe box…i love that thing! It is filled with recipes from friends, family, magazines, books, etc. It’s the best!
Oh and all those eats, esp lunch, look mighty delicious! You must have been a very happy girl :)

  9. I keep paper recipes in a notebook, and online ones in a folder on my web browser. I like the idea of a physical box, though!

  10. Hey girl! I started my blog as a way to organize my recipes! They’re not extremly organized but at least they’re in one place now! Everything looks so yummy. I want some of those crispy bananas! Lunas are a little TOO sweet for me. I do like the macadamia nut flavor

  11. I have quite a few saved on my computer, but I also have 3 duotangs in the kitchen for easy access. One is all Hungry Girl, one is all vegan and one is a mish mosh of recipes I’ve tried and liked!

  12. I store my websites of recipes in my favorites. They’re subcategoried (I think I made that word up) and all!

I really can’t stand Luna bars at all – they’re too sweet for me! Your breakfast looks so pillowy!

  13. I don’t have a recipe box, but I am looking to get crafty and make a recipe book with regular old index cards soon. Right now all my recipes are thrown in a box somewhere that I haven’t unpacked yet, or in this magnet clippy thing on my fridge.

As for lunas, I hated them when I first tried them. I think they’ve changed something since then. The first I had was the peanut butter cookie and it was all coated and too sweet. I tried another and just the bottom had the coating. They are still pretty sweet but I’ve started to like the caramel nut brownie and nutz over chocolate flavors. I actually just wrote a review for lunas on Suite101!

  14. I am definitely more of a Cliff girl. Lunas are okay, they have a drier texture and less “natural” taste than Cliff. Laras are probs my fave though.

  16. I have a Vegan Recipes tab in my bookmarks on Yahoo. Its overflowing at the moment so I’d better get to work =)

  17. I have a recipes folder in my online bookmarks, with sub-folders for desserts, main dishes, sides, etc. I need to get them more organized, though!

I saw those bananas at the store and was wondering if they’d rehydrate well! I don’t like my bananas crispy, but they’d be great for when I only have green bananas. I’ll have to pick some up :D

  18. hahaha you DON’T have orange hands! Trust me. My bf complains that i have yellow hands. GRRR and they ARE really yellow. :P

Dang i can always count on some awesome eats at your hut!!!!

P.s. I’m hosting my very own Big Lucky Giveaway and I hope you’ll come check it out!! :)

  19. I love love loveeee Luna Bars! Chocolate Peppermint and White Macedamia are my favs

  20. I have all my recipes bookmarked according to meal category. It is annoying to have the computer around when cooking them though!

I used up the last of my coconut butter this morning in my smoothie :( You’re tempting me to buy more!

  21. i love luna’s :)
i am torn between the pb cookie one and the wcmn bar.
love the mini’s – great pre workout snack!

  22. I definitely keep all my recipes in a folder on my laptop. Blogging definitely influences how I organize them all, too. I always make sure to include the original recipe’s photo and a link to the source :)

  23. Yay for the orange hands! And your on my blogroll now!
