"Wait, so you got picked up in church?"

Today’s post title is derived from a conversation I had with my sister via e-mail. I’ll explain the saga below, but if you’d rather just skip to the food, feel free to scroll down now.

So, three weeks ago, I headed to Chapel, and I was fortunate enough to land a pew seat next to a rather attractive guy. During “the Peace” in which members of the congregation exchange friendly greetings, we said hello, and that was that. Then at the end of the service, he turned to me and remarked what a “lovely singing voice” I have. As I’ve said before, compliments from strangers are always so much more meaningful:)

The next week, Palm Sunday, I was having trouble finding a seat in the very full Chapel. Then I spotted a seat–next to my pew buddy from last week. I decided to put on my big girl panties and  sit next to him. We chatted again, and I found out that he is a first-year law student here at Duke, among other interesting facts.

This past Sunday, on Easter, I walk into the Chapel, amidst a yet again very full sanctuary. Who do I find standing right beside the door? Yep, my pew buddy. We squished into a pew again and chatted. After the service was over, he asked for my number. The whole occasion was much better than anything the Easter Bunny could have brought:)

So, we’re meeting on Friday. I am worried that I am misinterpreting the whole series of events; my female intuition (or lack thereof) has tremendously failed me in the past. Perhaps he is just friendly? Nonetheless, it will be nice to have another guy friend, if friendship is all he is pursuing. Wish me luck!

On another note, I was lucky enough to receive an award from the amazing Jess. Here is the description:

“These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated.” It also says : “Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”friend-award

I have made so many friends through the blogging community, and it is always a pleasure to read your comments and blog posts!

Due to the fact that this award has been well-circulated among the blogging community, and that I can’t choose favorite bloggers, I pass this award onto all of my super-cool readers. I really do appreciate your taking the time to read my ramblings week in and week out!

Right, this is a food blog:

Monday

I had to evaluate a delivery vendor for the dining committee again. This meal was from Cinelli’s Pizza. Obviously, the Kashis and melon were not included in the order! I was disappointed by the lack of beans in the soup–it was all (oily) vegetables. Oh, well.

I came home craving some grits. (Did I just say that? Since when am I that Southern?) I combined zucchini, red onion, garlic, and SmartDog for a big bowl of goodness.

Peach-blueberry is a great combination! I need to use it more often.

Tuesday

“F” Oats!  I decided to get flaxy with this bowl–love the texture they provide. I just wish I had some figs to go with it! FYI, filberts are also known as hazelnuts.

For lunch, I whipped out the George Foreman again. I simply spread pesto on each side of the sandwich and piled mushrooms, red onion, and zucchini in the middle. The aspiring vegan in me hates to admit that it would have been better with cheese!

A few months ago, I saw this recipe on Kath’s blog and knew I had to try it. I fried it up in soy-free Earth Balance, but next time I might try baking it for added crispiness.

Wednesday

I’ve had a lot of requests to review the FlaxPlus Waffles with Figs. The last time I enjoyed them, I doused them with cashew-cream sauce, so I figured I should taste them at least once in “a more natural state” before reviewing them. Today, I simply drizzled them with a little maple-agave blend. Delicious! Very figgy. Expect a review in the near future!
