Weekend Indulgences
In continuing with the theme of this afternoon’s giveaway post, I thought I’d share a few of this weekend’s best summer indulgences.
1) A package of tomato-ey joy. I guess word got out that I really dig fire-roasted tomatoes. Muir Glen noticed that I’ve been cooking with these amped-up tomatoes lately and offered to send me a Muir Glen Reserve Kit for use in future recipes. I’m particularly jazzed about the chipotle pepper variety:)
2) A lakeside hike. Seth and I have been in search of inexpensive ways to entertain ourselves lately, so we decided to explore a local lake here in Raleigh. Entrance to Jordan Lake was just 6 bucks, and we were even allowed to bring Miss Margot along for the adventure.
3) Harry Potter. Today’s main event was a trip to the movie theater to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The movie itself was pretty entertaining and suspenseful…but I was a little disappointed that not a single member of the audience was dressed up for the occasion. I guess you have to attend the midnight showings to see the true Potter groupies.
How did you spend your weekend?
Here’s how the food part of the fun went down:
Saturday
Ever since last week’s Arugula Salad with Pesto Vinaigrette, I’ve been anxious for another excuse to use that delicious pesto. I put it to good use in an Italian-themed bowl of grits.
After our hike, I was hungry for some simple grub. Peanut butter. Banana. Honey. Yum.
For dinner, Seth and I hit up our favorite Zest again. I practically clapped when I heard what the soup of the day was: Peach Gazpacho. I had a big ol’ bowl of that along with a hearty salad.
Sunday
My craving for savory breakfast food returned again this morning, so I whipped up an egg white wrap.
Lunch was a modified version of my Strawberry Fields Forever Salad, using bloobs and cinnamon-roasted almonds.
Tonight I made a light dinner for Seth and me out of noodles, tofu, fresh veggies, and toasted sesame oil. It was very much inspired by an Ellie recipe from a while back. Seth declared it as one of my “top 5” meals that I’ve made for him.
Alright, here’s to another good week. G’night!
