Welcome to the Family
Some of you may recall that at about this time last year, we welcomed a new member to the Yoder clan, a certain Ms. Greta:
Well, now she is all grown up…
We were all having a case of puppy withdrawal apparently, because we recently added a new pooch to the pack. Meet Rainer!
My sister Katie and her husband Major are now the proud parents of TWO beautiful boxers. As far as I know, Greta has accepted her baby brother…with a little rough-housing every now and then.
I am so excited to meet Rainer when I return home for Thanksgiving in a few days. I go through a bit of doggie withdrawal while I am away at school. I miss having a friendly greeting when I come home from a long day; I miss having a little companion staring at me for all my meals; I miss having that warm little ball of fur next to me when I fall asleep at night. If you’re a pet-owner, what do you miss about your pet when you’re away?
I managed to distract myself from my doggie withdrawal today, however, with other activities. Here’s what I ate along the way:
Sunday
When it gets to be Sunday night, my frozen fruit supply is usually pretty pathetic. Hence, my kitchen sink smoothie last night.
Monday
With no tutoring appointments to scurry off to, I took my time preparing breakfast this morning and whipped up a batch of Banana Fingers.
I think I shall institute humMonday. I’ve been making homemade hummus every Monday for lunch, and I don’t plan on changing my habit anytime soon. Today’s variety was a new one featuring avocado. After all, my favorite sandwich combination of all time is hummus and guacamole, so why not put them both into one delicious dip? I’ve already updated the hummus page with the recipe.
After my usual dining committee meeting, I came home to prepare a quick curry. It was pretty good, but I think I was far more interested in those honey sesame cashews.
Perhaps I will start working on my 18 page paper now. Nah, Little People, Big World sounds much more appealing. Good night!

Hello and welcome! I have created this blog for people who love food, especially healthful, vegetarian food.
I have just graduated from Duke University with degrees in English and psychology. I plan to pursue a master's degree in nutrition starting in Fall 2010. Ideally, I would like to combine my love of food and the written word someday as a health writer.

I know what you mean about puppy withdrawal! If I’m away from my boy for even just a few days, we both get horribly heartsick.
And I have to agree, the best part of having a dog is cuddling up together at bedtime!
Rainer is simply adorable. I think what I miss most about Olive when I’m away from her is snuggling in bed. She an awesome snuggler.
Your kidney bean sweet potato curry looks delicious.
Awww those pups are adorable!!! I admit that the first thing I miss when I leave home is my pup. It’s just not the same without her!
Avocado hummus is brilliant!
your curry w/ the red kidney beans looks so hearty and awesome on this cold night!
Awww, those doggies are so cute! You are so lucky that you get to come home to both. They’re adorable! Hmm, I love curry! It has such a nice warming feeling to it when eaten. I really like reading about your meals – they’re always so well balance and look so good!

i LOVE the banana fingers Idea! I made the tofu french toast last night! It was ok, but it certainly didn’t look like yours lol…I dipped it in a eggwhite batter with cinnamon and vanilla then dipped it in crushed fiber one and baked it…what did I do wrong??
LOOOOOVE!!! They must meet Chooey
Oh yes, I miss her when I’m away – but that’s natural.
Awww, aren’t boxers the best! I have two mutts, but they both have boxer in them and it’s obvious when they play with each other — they stand on their hind legs and, well, BOX!
LOVE the pup pictures! SO adorable!
Those banana fingers look great as well, yum!
Just came across your blog. Love it. Those dogs are soooo cute. I am not a dog owner though my sisters have dogs. Avocado hummus sounds great… I love avocado!
You know just how to get us! Those pups are SO cute. I can’t wait until I’m settled enough to get my own bulldog! I miss playing games with my poodle… he gets so excited to fetch!
Oh my gosh, those puppies are adorable! My husband loves boxers, I’m going to have to show him
We have a beagle and I miss her all day long while I’m at work, she’s just so sweet and always wants to be in the room with you no matter what you are working on.
Both those pups are the cutest EVER!!! Their photos totally put a grin on my face.
i literally cannot get through your post without noting several recipes i need to try. your eats are FANTASTIC!

Those are some cute dogs. I never had a dog growing up – I was allergic.
I need to try avocado with hummus – looks amazing!
Your kindney bean sweet potato curry sounds and looks amazing.
I heart Little People BW. I always get hooked on the marathons…
I miss my dog Montana soo much while at college. I mostly miss just sitting next to him, and he misses that too. I know because I get emails saying he whines when there’s no one with him on the couch, and then I yell at my parents to take care of him better haha
I was so close to making banana fingers today but I didn’t have anything crumbly to coat them with
Love pups but I’m allergic–statement of my life!
Cutest puppy!!! Oh my gosh.
OH BABY LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rainer is precious! The thing that I miss most about my dog when I’m away is the sight of her lying by the front door with her face in her paws.. That, and lying and listening to her little heart beat. Favorite thing to do.
The banana fingers are something I MUST try soon, they’re so fun!
The kidney bean sweet tater curry looks incredible!!
your dogs have cool names.
and oh yeah i wasted SOOOO much time watching little people big world in college. it’s the worst when they have those marathons and you just CAN’T stop watching it! haha
Aww look at that precious little face!!
I too miss having my dog around to just lay by my side as I do homework, and to pet/cuddle with when watching tv! Yayy I get to see her cute little face in a WEEK!
Those banana fingers look DELICIOUS by the way!
HII!!! love your banana fingers! i did research on paleolithic diet- let me know if you need help!
Adorable puppy
I love pets. Even though I only have cats, I’m a dog person as well. We haven’t had one since I was 13 or so though
And hello, avocado hummus? Yes please.
