When I’m 64

In looking back on this past weekend, it appears that the way we chose to spend it was, shall we say, a little “geriatric.” That is, I don’t envision my weekends being all that different in the future when I’m 64.

First, Seth and I headed to Home Depot in search of a toilet repair kit, cabinet handles, and other such wildly exciting items.

Later we hit up Costco and Trader Joe’s where I skipped through the aisles with glee.

IMG_4901 That night, we watched Billy Elliot on Netflix, which involved the following conversation:

“Can you understand a thing they’re saying?!”

“No! Honestly, they should really provide subtitles.”

And today, I continued the trend with some good ol’ fashioned baking.

What can I say? I’m an old soul.

Here’s what I munched on along the way…

Saturday

Breakfast included all the usual Saturday morning suspects—eggs, cheese, and toast.

Amidst our errands, Seth and I stopped for smoothies at Smoothie King. We were both completely disappointed by our beverages—mine tasted like crushed ice, while Seth’s was ill-mixed and contained way too much honey. Epic fail, Smoothie King.

For dinner, I prepared a simple meal for the two of us, using Nasoya’s new Tofu Plus. Not my best culinary effort. The fries were overdone, and the tofu was not the right consistency either. Truth be told, I cried a little bit at my abysmal attempt at making dinner.

Sunday

Protein-tastic oat bran was on the menu this morning. Sunshine makes everything taste better:)

Seth and I both developed some serious appetites after running errands this morning, so we hit up Panera for a hearty meal.

Dinner was a simple sandwich-and-salad affair.

Alright, I have to finish up packing this evening!

  1. I always love how your raisins/cranberries rest so perfectly on your oatmeal! There is never a time where I’m not happy while walking through trader joes :)

  2. Sometimes the old folks really do know how to live the simple (but good) life, eh?!

I want to see Billy Elliot for the dancing, but apparently it’s hard to understand the characters?

I’d also like to point out that Seth seems to be sporting Ohio State colors in his photo. :)

  3. LOL.

You must be 64 with those “moral fiber” muffins ;)

  4. That’s all I could ask for in a weekend – easy errands and good eats. I’m actually planning on going to Home Depot myself next week.
I also ate a bunch of prunes today so I might be really over the hill.

  5. I’m an old soul right along with you. I think this looks like a weekend well spent!

And go Seth, rocking the stripes!

  6. Holy wow!
I’m fixated on the lines in your cut-open photo of the sandwich.

    Um…one word…gifted!!!

So, don’t cry over silt milk OR lackluster dinner after a geriatric day of shopping.

I love your blog, girl. Thank you for sharing.

  7. What will you be doing with those craisins? I wish I had gotten some on my last trip to Costco. I feel the baking bug on me again…:-)

  8. Eh, I never liked Billy Elliot– a bit too “foreign” for my liking :)
I’m sure Seth was happy that you spent time fixing a meal rather than how yummy it was. What a nice girlfriend! :)

  9. I really enjoyed the simplicity of you blog today – and maybe it’s because I am Australian and people think that I have a funny accent (but I love Billy Elliot and didn’t have a problem understanding it).

  10. Hi! I just re-discovered your blog and have been catching up. I’ve always been an old soul, too. Nothing wrong with enjoying what you enjoy–whatever it is.

    Your weekend mirrored mine :)

Your eats look great by the way.

  11. HAHA….your weekend sounds very similar to what mine usually are! :)

  12. Haha, my spouce and i just had this conversation a few days ago, about how fortunate we have been that both of us like latest interior design trends. He came house from visiting a wonderful, albeit design-backward friend, and the first thing he said when he walked in the door:
