Wishy-Washy
Generally speaking, I am a very conscientious decision-maker. I gather information from various sources, evaluate the credibility of said sources, and carefully make a decision. Moreover, I typically uphold that decision—no flip-flopping allowed.
However, this past weekend my characteristic decision-making style apparently vanished as soon as I walked in the doors of Gold’s Gym. I took a quick tour, and before I knew it my signature was on a contract, and I became a proud gym member. This haste arose perhaps as a result of my stress fracture diagnosis—the combination of injury-induced depression and anxiety pushed me toward making a heedless decision.
Then, not even 48 hours later, I started having doubts. My uneasiness with the decision came about partially as the result of a suboptimal group exercise class schedule…but mostly because of the financial commitment. $35 a month for 12 months (the minimum contract length) amounts to several hundred dollars—money that could be better used for buying Margot’s dog food, for example. Plus, I am optimistic that I’ll be back to running in the sunshine in a matter of a few months:)
All of this is to say that every now and then—I’m a tad wishy washy.
What’s your decision-making style?
Also, do you belong to a gym? Why or why not?
I was pretty decisive about my food choices today—and dang, they were all tasty ones.
The breakfast menu featured an Elvis sammie.
For lunch, I concocted a new hummus flavor—it’s been awhile, I know! The inspiration for this was my meal at Rosetta’s Kitchen, which featured tahini-spiked BBQ sauce. That combination was so incredibly delicious that I sought to recreate it myself…and then I remembered the magical powers of tahini & chickpeas…boom. A new hummus flavor was born: Smoky BBQ Hummus. Recipe to come!
Tonight’s dinner was an Ellie recipe, Southwestern Hash with Eggs.
My tweaks:
-I used more black beans than called for in the recipe.
-I was more generous with the spices than the recipe called for. I like my hash to be spicy!
Aside from last week’s pizza experiment, I had never made a fried egg prior to tonight’s dinner—and it may just be a new obsession. The combination of the egg yolk with the spicy hash was nothing short of amazing. I look forward to making this dish again and again!

I am now off to find a topic for my experimental foods paper—any suggestions out there?
Have a good one, y’all.

Can’t wait for the hummus recipe!
I love my gym because it has so many good classes! I can’t imagine without it!
I’m a little indecisive about things sometimes, like deciding what I want to order at a restaurant! I belong to a gym, and while I don’t go every day, I like being able to go and use the machines and read the magazines other people have left behind.
Aren’t fried eggs delicious toppings?!
I love playing around with new hummus flavors– you can really get creative in any way when it comes to hummus! Lemme guess, you used liquid smoke and smoked paprika?
A sub par group fitness schedule?? Major boo to that! I belong to the gym without having to belong….a very nice perk of teaching. The new hummus flavor sounds awesome. I love bbq sauce…so this must be a winner!
Love the hummus idea!
i am the worst decision maker ever. the end.
I have belonged to Gold’s Gym since I was 17 and I and 25 now. My membership is down to $19 a month. I don’t do the exercise classes but I like how I can do cardio and watch TV.
Oh my, that hash is bonkers; I love it! And I like spices and lots of flavor in my foods, too
As for the gym, I am a member of 24 Hour. I like it and I like the fact that I’ve paid for the option to go to other locations, as well. Is there a time period for any buyer’s remorse feelings with Gold’s?
