Womanizer
No worries, blog friends—I was not assaulted today. Rather, my post’s title refers to that recognizable anthem sung my America’s favorite songstress:
As I headed out on my run this morning, I could feel it—I was draggin’. I was ready to call it quits no more than two miles into my route. However, just as I was ready to turn around, the motivation gods smiled upon me and blessed Nestor the Nano with the perfect song choice to keep me going. “Womanizer”’s distinctive opening chords gave me just the kick in the pants that I needed. Suddenly, I was channeling the pent-up rage from all those ill-behaved Duke boys of my undergraduate career; new-found endurance swept over me, and I continued on my run.
Even better, Nestor kept the killer tunes coming for the duration of the run with songs like:
- “It’s Rainin’ Men” (Weather Girls)
- “No One” (Alicia Keys)
- “Loverboy” (Queen)
- “Ready to Run” (Dixie Chicks)
Glorious. With songs like that, no wonder I finished with a faster pace today:)
What’s your power song today?
With all inspirational playlists aside, let’s get onto the grub.
I’m not typically a juice drinker; I much prefer to chew my food. That being said, I had some serious cravings for orange juice last week, and it just happened to be on sale at the Teet this week. I’ve kinda been on an OJ kick ever since. I used some in my smoothie this morning—it was good, but I think I still prefer the creaminess that almond/soy milk lends to my blended creations.
After a pleasantly easy exam, I came home to make a celebratory batch of hummus. Lemon Hummus, to be precise.
The squash of the week here at the B-Hut is butternut, so I delved into the depths of my laptop’s recipe file and found a Butternut Squash Stew. I made my own version this evening and topped it with toasted pecans. Yum.
Believe it or not, after all that food, I’m still hungry. Off to forage for a snack. Later!

Today, “my song” is definitely Somethin’ Bout A Woman by Lady A
I used to drink OJ all the time….mostly for breakfast before Econ 51D haha. Contrary to what people say, it actually kept me really full (given the high sugar content and lack of fiber). Although, if you get the pulp kind there’s more fiber, right?
Your stew looks good. Have your tried making lentil hummus? I tried it this weekend and have fallen in love with it. It is a nice change from chickpeas. Have a great night.
Oh my gosh, girl, the EXACT same thing happened to me this morning. No joke. Seriously, we ARE twins. My power song was “Soul Sister.” I hadn’t updated my ipod since like January, and I finally got around to it yesterday. When that song came on this morning, I was even thinking about writing a post about how it motivated me… but now I don’t have to; you wrote the post for me, pinpointing exactly how I felt!
Anything Lady Gaga
That’s the first time I’ve heard that song. I like it!
Your butternut squash stew looks awesome. Seems like an awesome fall food.
I feel ya, Broc Hut…. As I went for my morning run this morning, I blasted up Mama Mia soundtrack which really got me movin’… it’s all about the beats you listen to that get you motivated.
Haha, I’m always hungry– many snacks are involved in my day:)
I always LOVE when Womanizer comes on while I’m running, too! It’s definitely a fantastic motivator. Your lemon hummus looks wonderful! I have to make my first batch of hummus soon…I finally got a food processor and can’t wait to test it out!
I’ve never really been a fan of juice in smoothies myself. Something about a smoothie makes me want a creamy, milk based drink.
Totally random fact – there is a street in my neighbourhood named Butternut. I kid you not.
hahaha okay britney is making a comeback and so did you. are you not amped for the glee brit episode? i don’t even watch the show i just know that my gym mixes will be getting a makeover after that episode haha
I really need good songs to pump me up or else I drag, and I get sick of songs reallly easy so I always have to try to find somethign new! Right now its waka waka by shakira
LOL! When I was marathon training for the Avon Walk, Britney Spears TOTALLY got me through the long walks– especially the hills. That and hard-core rap! I always enjoy reading your blog.
