You Found Me!
If you are reading this post, I presume you have heard the news: The Broccoli Hut has relocated to the WordPress neighborhood. In case you haven’t updated your Google reader subscription yet, the new URL is:
http://broccolihut.wordpress.com
I have been lured by the charms of WordPress for months. Not only does WordPress boast a multitude of eye-catching templates, but it also grants “page-making capabilities;” indeed, this was the chief attraction of WordPress over Blogger in my opinion. If you’ll look above, you’ll notice that I currently have an “About” page, as well as a page devoted to my “Healthy Habits” posts and product reviews. In the future, I plan to create a recipes page as well, although that genius Katie also suggested I make a “smoothies” page…the possibilities are endless!
Clearly, I am still a neophyte within the WordPress world, so I would appreciate any helpful tips or suggestions for operating on this new platform. I foresee that WordPress may be an impediment to my studies in the coming weeks, just in time for finals…good timing, no?
Anyway, I have much good food to share with you today, both in meals and grocery loot. Take a look:
Wednesday
Allergaroo sent me this pouch of pasta to review for VegFamily a few weeks ago. As you might surmise from the name, their foods are allergen-free; the pasta is made from rice flour, and the sauce is dairy-, gluten-, and soy-free. Allergaroo offers only three varieties of pasta at present, and this is the only non-meat containing variety. Since it is merely pasta with simple, albeit tasty, tomato sauce, I jazzed it up with some veggies.

Allergaroo pasta with zucchini, mushrooms, & red onion; greens with cashews; grapes

Afternoon snack:

whole wheat mini bagel with Cinnamon Swirl PB
For dinner, I tried an old favorite from ED&BV: Orange Sesame Tofu. That salad on the side was pretty heavenly too.

Orange Sesame Tofu; whole wheat couscous; salad with mushrooms, asparagus, orange segments, & sesame vinagirette

The smoothie that evening is yet another mystery smoothie. Seeing as I am running low on smoothie supplies, I am fairly certain it involved chocolate rice protein and strawberries, however.

Continuing with the alphabet oats challenge, I made a bowl of B! That Blueberry PURE bar made this bowl of bran pure bliss! OK, I’ll stop with the alliteration now. Only downside: I burned my mouth on this breakfast–it was so good, I just couldn’t wait to eat it all!

"B" Oats: oat bran, rice milk, banana, bluberries, & Blueberry PURE Bar
In an effort to diminish my food points supply, I made a trip to the on-campus grocery store. I made out with a pretty healthy haul:

frozen blueberries & raspberries, red onion, oranges, avocado, tomatoes, cantaloupe, artichoke hearts, GoLean, spinach, celery, green beans, mushrooms, garlic, & cucumber
Before heading out to tutor a few writing students, I made a quick lunch out of my leftover hummus. What shall the next flavor be?

tomato-basil hummus wrap; celery & cuke; orange

For snackage, I was inspired by K. Love this Organic Valley cottage cheese, even if it is friggin’ expensive.

For dinner, I made ZestyCook’s recipe, but substituted my beloved tempeh bacon. Truth be told, I bought this package of bacon for the express purpose of making this recipe.

Asparagus Bacon Walnut Salad; baked potato, greens with balsamic vinaigrette

After seeing her smoothie yesterday, my good friend Jenn reminded me that I have some Smoothie Infusion in my cupboards. Good stuff–much better than the other Vega protein blends I have tried.

Smoothie: blueberries, mango, soymilk, Vega Smoothie Infusion; Mango-Almond Melange (MixMyGranola)
Friday
With a little time on my hands, I made some banana pancakes this morning. For the topping, I mixed TJ’s Agave-Maple blend with almond butter & cinnamon.

With my Whole Foods haul, plus my food points booty, I should be all set this week:

tofu, plain yogurt, Rachel's cottage cheese, strawberry coconut milk yogurt (dairy-free), light soymilk

frozen peaches, strawberries, & cherries

fresh strawberries, apples, bananas, Romaine lettuce

Z Bars, vanilla soy protein packets, whole wheat spaghetti, Annie's garlic dressing, rice milk, vegan mayo, chickpeas, & pumpkin
Another quick lunch today before tutoring…this one was inspired by Clean Eating Magazine’s Curried Chicken Salad with Tropical Fruit. The cashews were my contribution;)

Today’s reminders:
-Lucky Taste Buds is giving away Zoe’s Granola…we all know how much I love my granola:) Enter by April 7th at 6PM CST.
-Meghann is giving away Erin Baker’s products. I’ve had my eye on those mini-breakfast cookies fo-evah! Enter by tonight!

Looove the new site, for sure!!
HELL YES FOR THE BLUEBERRY PURE BAR!!!
Enjoy your weekend, dear C. Yode
Mmmm, so much delicious frozen fruit! I can’t believe your on-campus grocery store sells such wonderful products. Ours, not so high quality.
Your use of the word “neophyte” instantly reminded me of something else.
Welcome to WordPress!
I’ve been wanting to try tempeh bacon for awhile. I am most definitely on a tempeh kick… What brand do you suggest?
yay, welcome to wordpress! I love the new layout
This site is A-wesome Caroline!! LOVE it!!
As for what the next hummus flavor should be – there’s a TON! You can choose from pesto hummus, sundried tomato hummus, roasted pumpkin hummus, peanut hummus, edamame hummus?, guac hummus? (we even have beetroot hummus ere in aus) or …. what ever combo you can think of, the possiblities are seriously endless!!
fancy finds!
Love the new site
I love your new site!
I just finished reading your “About” page, and I laughed at the story of the origin of your blog title.
Another thing I love: Your ABC oats! So creative!!! But I wonder what you’ll do with “K” since I know how tricky that letter can be. (Ah, memories of the “name game” in elementary school. “I’m Katie and I like kittens… because I can’t think of anything else.”)
I love your “B” oats.. especially with the addition of a Blueberry PURE bar. That flavor is so delicious! I’m sure your oats were heavenly!
Mmm. Those banana pancakes look incredible!! So creative with your maple-agave-almond butter topping!
That piece on your fork is calling my name!
Hope you have a splendid Saturday!
WOW your eats look delicious!
Thanks for the shout out, lovebug!! I’m currently eating that exact combo
LOVE the alliteration! I hope you enjoy procrastinating, I mean discovering WordPress! Fabulous grocery hauls – you made out like a bandit!
welcome to wordpress lady!
Caroline,
Love, love, love, love the new template! So very fresh and healthy-looking. Lol! Unfortunately I’ve only used blogger myself, but if you ever want some help working on graphics, I would be happy to help you out!
Your alphabet oats are keeping me so very entertained! Can’t wait to see what your creative brain cooks up next.
Wow! That’s an impressive trip to the student store. Next year RISD requires all freshman to buy a full meal plan… so it’s good to see that schools do have some stuff worth buying.
Next hummus flavor? Garlic eggplant. If you’ve ever tried the TJ’s version (which is to die for) you know it’s an amazing flavor combo.
Have a great Sunday!
With Love,
Emily
yayyyyyyy for wordpress!! (almost) everything about it makes me happy.
your blueberry oat bran looks amazing. that rich, dark color makes me want to dive right in!
Yayyyyy! congrats on the move—it looks great!
Yumm vegan banana pancakes?!?! those look like the most delicious things, ever!!
And good grocery finds, that campus store has some legit stuff, plus whole foods goods…how fun!
Totally scrumptious! I love silk products! =D
Wowww, those oats are SO BLUE. Haha!
That’s really amazing that you guys have an on-campus grocery store that takes points for payment. We have lots of mini-marts & eateries on/near where you can use points, but none of them carry the kind of fresh produce that yours apparently does! (I’m not signed up for any points this year, but still! So jealous!)
Congrats on the move! Looks super!
I always end up burning my mouth in impatience to eat delicious hot things as well. One of the giant benefits of taking pictures of my meals is now they have a little time to cool as I fiddle around with my camera. I take too many pictures. And my burn-free mouth is quite happy about that
I found you! I know I’m a few days late, but CONGRATS on moving to WordPress. I think you’ll find it’s a real treat
I really would like a smoothie page! That would be amazing.
Speaking of smoothies, I’m glad I could remind you of the smoothie infusion packet! I have to admit, I’m a little leery of the other Vega packets. I think that this one may be the best thing they’ve got going!
I love your blueberry oatmeal! I need to find a blueberry PURE bar – that and the cran-orange are the two I have yet to try!
