You Know You're a Foodie If…

You know you’re a foodie if…

You read the Williams-Sonoma catalog like a novel.

You’ve fallen madly in love with a man name Trader Joe.

You squeal with delight when you hear about a new food product.

Do any of these sound familiar? That last one rings especially true today. I received two exciting e-mails in the past week about new food products. First, MixMyGranola announced a new line of “enhancers” for their products (including pomegranate shots!). THEN, I received an e-mail notifying me of the newest OIKOS flavor, strawberry. I must say, all this news rivals my excitement I experienced the day I learned that Larabars were introducing a PB&J flavor…still on the lookout for that one. What new food products make you giddy with  anticipation? What other items would add to the “You know you’re a foodie if…” list?

I am here at the lake with out-of-town relatives this weekend, so I will have to make this a somewhat abridged post. Enjoy today’s eats, thus far:

Thursday

I pretty much gulped this masterpiece, and I was a little heart-broken when I reached the bottom of my smoothie cup.

Friday

Once again, class time came around sooner than expected, so I had to take breakfast to-go again.

I busted out the "Bounty" china again...I save it for special occasions;)

For lunch, I made my own vegan gumbo. I have been hesitant to tackle a gumbo concoction because I have had bad experiences with okra in the past. Let’s just say I don’t like it fried, nor do I enjoy the slimy mess that steaming creates. However, this gumbo was quite the success, and easy too! I didn’t have any rice on hand, so I used couscous…still satisfied my grumbling tummy:)

Alright, I am off to come up with some kind of BBQ tofu dish since the fam is having BBQ chicken. Have a fabulous weekend!

  1. I love cashews! Their salty and sweet at the same time which satisfies both cravings!

  2. I love it when there’s a new type of ice cream (almond milk ice cream would be nice) or type of bread (tortilla, pita, naan, sprouted, spelt, brown rice, the list goes on) around!

You know of you’re a foodie if…you cannot set foot in Whole Foods without going through every aisle, even if it hasn’t changed since the last time you came ;)

  3. haha love the foodie list! i am all of those 100%!! also you know you’re a foodie if most of your online bookmarks are recipes…

  4. you know youre a foodie if your xmas list is loaded with kitchen appliances and you get more excited when you recieve a whole foods gift card than a sweater :)

  5. To answer your foodie questions:

  7. ive never tried my hand at okra. yours looks like it turned out well! you’re so fancy with your bounty ;) you know you are a foodie if..

*trips to the grocery store are relaxing and or/exciting and take longer than trips to the mall

*you take time to place your food onto your plate so it looks photo-worthy (this is why i always have to let the boyfriend get his food first if we are eating together, he thinks i take too long and likes to slop his food onto a plate and be done with it).

*you spend more time in the kitchen gadget section of ross or tj maxx than in the clothes section!

  8. high five! total foodie! I hit all the components you mentioned, though not so much the new food product…well, it depends on what kind of food product!
anyway, LOVE that black bean gumbo with the couscous…YUM!

  9. Haha I totally freak out when I find a new cool food product. I get sooo excited. Some of my recent finds are the Annie’s Naturals Island Marinade (OMG LOVE IT!), TJ’s Beef-less strips, and the Country Choice Multi-grain hot cereal.

    Have a great weekend!

  10. Oooh, gumbo. I’m a big gumbo fan, haven’t made it in ages though. I love the okra in it, I think that’s my favourite part of the whole dish :D

  11. haha we are all such foodie freaks! I wouldn’t have it any other way though! haha Oh and strawberry oikos is literally amazingggggg!

  12. you know you’re foodie when you enjoy more kitchen/dinning section shopping than clothes, when you get super excited for weekends to go to farmers markets and do groceries!!! :D

  13. Yay for strawberry Oikos!

Great smoothie! Nice idea adding chocolate syrup to it! Mmmm!

  14. Haha we’re gonna have to get in a fight over who’s man Mr. TJs is…
    that smoothie looks GREAT!

  15. You know, I’ve never had gumbo! Yours looks fantastic!! One time I was watching The Duel on MTV and I noticed that Evan was reading Eat, Pray, Love and Landon was eating oatmeal ;) I can’t help but notice those kind of things!! For the record, I swear I posted my recent entry before I read yours meaning our ESP is kind of out of control! I LOVE NEW PRODUCTS!!

  16. SO TRUE!!! You know you’re a foodie if you think “OMG, this meal is great! I can’t wait to share it on my blog!”

  17. I am pumped about the PBJ lara!

you know you are a foodie when you have food splashed on your camera!

  18. The fact that I would rather wander grocery stores than the mall any day makes me the freak of the friend-group, but whatever. I’m there three or four times a week for fresh produce and I shop for my mom and grandma, trying different stores to find different stuff…

I could browse through food magazines, Web sites and TV shows for hours, but can’t focus on anything else for more than two seconds.

    Foodies unite!

  19. [...] dumped a few things in a pot and came up with another black bean gumbo (similar to the one I had here). That Annie’s dressing continues to draw a “meh” response from my taste buds. [...]
