Yummus Hummus

In case you haven’t noticed, I kind of have a thing for hummus. Take one glance at my recipe page, and you’ll see what I mean.

As much as I love homemade hummus, I also occasionally buy some of the pre-made stuff for convenience. So when I saw this article rating fourteen different brands of hummus, my curiosity was immediately piqued.

If you click on over, you’ll see that they’re pretty hard on poor ol’ Trader Joe in their judgments, but they love a brand called Abraham’s—I’ve tried neither, amazingly enough. My personal favorites include Cedar’s Garden Vegetable, Sabra Luscious Lemon, and Tribe Forty Spices.

I’m fairly certain that there are some fellow hummus fans out there—what are your favorite flavors and/or brands? I’m always up for trying out a new variety!

As you might guess, I did consume some hummus today…but first I had some breakfast.

Chocolate-covered cherries for breakfast? Yes, please.

Given the abundance of fresh herbs in my fridge, I decided to make Hemp Herb Hummus for lunch.

By the time I got home from lab at 8PM, I was famished. Peanut Butter Noodles with Tofu was the first dish I could think of to fill my belly.

As per the recommendation of my Twitter friends, I am off to try out some Pigeon Pose.

Good night!

  1. I swoon for hummus!

  2. soo delish looking!! everything :)

  3. Sabra is the best! It usually costs more than other brands though, so I don’t buy it very often. Safeway stores have a house brand called Eating Right which has a nice hummus too.

Love the cherry breakfast on the cherry placemat!

  4. mmm, pigeon :) such a good hip opener!

  5. sabra jalapeno please!!

  6. Gosh. Making my own hummus ruined me for storebought. I always prefer my own. Yet I cannot resist a hummus sale.

Sabra came out with a fantastic basil pesto hummus.
Tastes delicious …quite high in calories. With the way I eat hummus (like 10 servings per sitting) I have to be careful with that one!

I just looked up the basil pesto hummus on the Sabra site–it looks fantastic! Two of my favorite condiments in one. You’re right about the high Cal content though–almost 200 Calories per 2 Tbsp serving! All healthy fat though :)

  7. I LOVE HUMMUS. The all-caps is to emphasize my weird obsession. Gotta go check out the reviews–I make my own for the most part, too, but every once in a while I want the store stuff. Or the amazing hummus the greek place across the street makes..

Anyway, favorite hummus comes and goes. My favorite to make right now is pesto hummus (love that it was mentioned right above my comment!) Can make your own for hopefully fewer calories, just throw lots of fresh basil, lemon, and a few dried italian herbs into a regular chickpea/tahini base–or even omit the tahini. I’m also in love with dessert hummus now, took me awhile to try it out, but I’m glad I did.

Mega-obsesser over here too. I’ve made my own version of pesto hummus too, particularly when my basil plant grows like crazy in the summertime. I haven’t gotten around to it this summer yet–I’ll add it to my to do list:)
I was wary of the dessert hummuses (hummi?) until recently as well. Check out my recipe page for my Sweet Maple Pumpkin Hummus, if you’re interested!

  8. I like hummus in any flavor. My favorite brand is one made locally. It is creamy and tart/salty. I can not get my homemade hummus as smooth aned creamy as store bought.

I can never get mine quite as creamy as the store-bought or restaurant varieties either, but I’ve heard the secret is to remove the skins off the chickpeas before blending them up. I’m far too impatient for such things, so I’ve never tried it myself–let me know if it works for you!

  9. I love hummus quite a bit and can found some times licking the empty container (just kidding).
I am a roasted red pepper fan, probably as my first choice…but really I haven’t had a hummus that I haven’t loved and enjoyed every bite of.

No shame in licking the empty container–I’ve been known to do that myself:)
    I agree though–it’s hard to find a hummus that I don’t like!

  10. My fave store-bought hummus would have to be Holy Homous from Victoria, BC. So good, and so fresh. Has a really short shelf life because of it, but it’s awesome. Just a little pricey. http://www.holyhomous.com/
